Eugene Burger did.
He devoted an entire chapter to it in one of his excellent books. |

As did I. And a copy of that chapter can be read online for free.

Nails too..
Especially how off putting it is watching Steve Dacris L&L dvds with his pointed, vampire style nails. |

Look at the photos of T. Nelson Downs hand... with that fingernail.

Yes Steve Dacri's nails were strange. But more offputting to me is a dude magician who
looks like he is an Avon lady. hehe |

One thing I learned early on is that one should always practice with the lotion applied if one is going to perform with the lotion applied. Just sayin'...

May I ask that we keep personalities out of this? It shouldn't have to even be said that a performer whose hands are being scrutinized should take pains to make sure they are presentable. No need to mention people by name. There are male performers that wear nail polish. So what? It is part of their persona, so it works for them.
It's never crowded on the extra mile....

This is one of the first things addressed in CC1. Thank God I am not a pro because my hands will always look bad.

When I place my orders for Chamberlain's Golden Touch, I get a full case of the large 16 oz bottles and use them to refill my 8 oz ans 2 oz spray bottles. I use O'Keeffe's "Working Hands Cream" every night before bed. I often use it in the morning too but it makes my hands too "slippery" to perform with so I do not use it any less than an hour or two before starting out. I apply a couple sprays of the Chamberlain's and let it dry right before I break out my cards. Since I practice so often, I re-apply several times a day. As for nails, I used to bite them all the time but when I lost several teeth (from radiation during my cancer) and had the rest pulled so I could get full dentures, the chewing stopped and my nails were able to grow again. I sometimes trim them too short or break one so I started using a clear strengthening nail polish that helps them grow faster and stay stronger. I also keep them clear of dirty buildup under them with a small pocket knife blade.

Sally Hanson has a clear nail hardener for those with weak nails. Taking biotin will increase your nail strength (hair and skin benefit too). Final thought is for management. Rather than cut, file them so that they're always perfect for performance.

It depends on the impression you are trying to give, but if you actually had magical abilities would you need perfect hands...
