700 out of 1000 sold in 3 days, not sure waiting until next month will be a good idea...

That's a pretty steep drop in sales. I'm sure there will be plenty of time over the next few weeks or even month to grab a copy. Maybe even longer if reviews start to roll in that are unfavorable. I never saw them, but I remember how some people were mad at Wesley James highly anticipated DVD's about Erdnase, hopefully this won't turn into a similar situation. |

I have imported a number of books into the UK from the gamblers book shop in Vegas and have never had to pay any tax.
"UK Trade Tariff: relief from customs and excise duties and VAT ... 2 Sep 2016 - Goods relieved of customs duty unconditionally educational, scientific and cultural materials. Including certain: books, publications and documents." https://www.gov.uk/government/publicatio......-and-vat I think the seller ought to mark the packages, printed books for educational purposes only.

I have been hit by customs twice on US to UK packages (out of probably hundreds by now). It's all about how the package is marked up and labelled. It's also luck (they don't seem to check every package). In both cases the packages were marked up with the true full value of the product.
Tommy is mixing up EU and Europe in his earlier post. The Germany tax is a Germany thing, not an EU thing. The UK customs tax is a UK thing, not an EU thing. They're all handled differently and I suspect in Germany's case its a far more efficient and mandatory process than the UK. |

As a seller of antiquarian books and magic books, I have encountered custom problems many times. The only trouble when not declared a true value of the item you are sending is you will not be able to insure it for the correct amount so if it gets lost or damaged during the shipping process you don't have a leg to stand on (either party)

The rate of Import Tax on books is Zero, VAT on books is also Zero and the customs examination fee is waived when there's no Import Tax or VAT to be paid. So you won't get charged a penny for importing your books from the USA into the UK. The examination fee in normally £8. Because of a strange EU law incidentally, you will be charged VAT on E-Books.
That is the word on the street.

Reminder that, despite the small Volume #2 printing error which caused a slight delay, SF has noted on his website that the books should start shipping four or five days from today (18th or 19th).

Gentleman: Let's keep this thread positive and objective and discuss the subject matter without childish bickering. Any back and forth attacks will get deleted.
Even though the Forte book is geared to magicians and gambling move hobbyists, still this is The Gambling Spot, not a magician forum. Go elsewhere for magic trick or magic techniques discussions. |
