The Pocket Printing Press is easily the most underrated gem I have ever produced and the routine I use it for, HERO, is among the top three effects I have ever come up with. Here is a review published in Linking Ring:
Pocket Printing Press Christopher Taylor, http://taylorimagineering.com/shop/pocket-printing-press-v4-0/, $49.95 It’s unusual for a creator to completely re-work the mechanics of an already successful product and end up with a superior effect that is worth buying even if you own the earlier versions. The 4th generation of Taylor Imagineering’s (TI) Pocket Printing Press is about as perfect a delivery system for a modern-day version of “ Ashes-to-Palm” as you can get. The basic effect is that a freely chosen number between 1 to 10 appears when ashes are rubbed on the back of your spectator’s hand, the wrist, or the arm. Your hands are shown completely empty the entire time except for a metal vial of ash that you use to sprinkle on the area where the number will appear. Pocket Printing Press includes the easy to carry special device created by Christopher Taylor that simplifies the printing process. A silver urn pendant with enough ash for a dozen performances, plus instructions on how to easily make more ash at home. A container of the “ink” that is needed. And the full script for Christopher Taylor’s “Hero” routine that can be used close-up or for larger stage performances. I can vouch for how impactful, and impossible looking Pocket Printing Press looks as a performer and as an audience member. I was sitting about 5 feet from Christopher Taylor when he performed a version of the Hero Storyline using the Pocket Printing Press on San Antonio magician Doug Gorman at the East Coast Spirit Sessions. Even though Doug and I were both aware of the earlier delivery method, the fact that Taylor’s hands were empty except for the vial of Ash and that he ended completely clean amazed us both. Doug, who was the person that ended up with the image of the number he freely selected on his wrist was particularly impressed A small touch that I added when I used it, was to use the vial as a pendulum to find the spot to pour the ash. In another version, I used the vial as a pendulum to select an envelope containing the number and the body part where the mark appeared. Taylor Imagineering is best known for its mechanical and electrical magic props. It has a solid reputation for the durability, aesthetic quality, and reliability of its products as well as for its customer service. TI is now building a growing following for bringing the same quality to its non-mechanic product line. Highly Recommended Rolando Santos |
