I'm searching for tricks done with eight cards only, and I already know two very good ones. By learning another one I could do a whole routine with eight cards!
Thanks, StreetWitch |

There are a number of 'Oil and Water' tricks that qualify.

Some good suggestions here. Modern Jazz Aces also gets my vote. It packs a good punch and is very easy.

BTW, StreetWitch, I don't know if you are aware of this, but Lee Asher was going to enter FISM and do an entire act with only 4 cards. He had several effects ready but never did it. I think it would have been cool.

Streetwitch,
Which are the two 8-card tricks that you already know? Bob |

You should also consider tricks that use less than 8 cards.

Good suggestions here...
I carry 8 cards, four of which is to do My Grandpa's Famous 4 Ace Trick (aka, Twisting The Aces), which I sometimes also will then go into The Daley Trick. I like to do it the way Bill Malone does it, always fun. But I also carry 4 Jacks when I want to start with a really nice 8 card trick, "The World's Fastest Card Trick." Now, despite the name, this trick doesn't have to be done fast, and I certainly don't do it as such. It's a cleverly done transposition trick where the 4 Aces clearly in your hand visually change places with the 4 Jacks down on the table...It's a wicked transposition! You can take your time with it, and believe me it plays just as well. Anyway, with just these 8 cards I can do 3 wonderful packet tricks, or not. I can also just draw all 4 or 8 cards from a deck and away we go as well. And I don't always do all 3 tricks, sometimes I just do 1 or 2, but when I do the one with 8 cards, I always upon finishing it say something like, "Sometimes, 8 cards are 4 cards too many for some folks..." And that's when I put the Jacks away and go into the trick(s) with just the 4 Aces. So, sometimes I do 1 or 2, or all 3 tricks, just depends on the moments, but the 8 cards allow me tremendous flexibility. I keep the 4 Jacks in my right jacket pocket, and the 4 Aces in my left breast pocket to be mixed at the right time, or not. Either which way, it's all good every time out.

Hi Mb,
I love transposition tricks. Do you have a reference for the trick you described where the aces and jacks change places? I tried looking around for "World's Fastest Card Trick," and got references to full-deck tricks. Thanks, Bob |

Mixtant is one of my favourites. You put four red cards on top of four black cards, then they suddenly interlace.
It was created by Phil Goldstein, who published it in Scattershot (and later in Focus). There was a different handling given in the January 2018 issue of Genii, called Flash Flood, by John Guastaferro and Bébel. I use the Flash Flood method for the first half then the original Mixtant method for the second half. |

That's a really pretty trick, Mb. I agree with you -- I think it goes by a bit too fast and would be more effective performed more slowly. Do you happen to know if he teaches this somewhere? It didn't look like he sells anything on his website.
