"I seriously love the disarming flexibility of Mick Wilson's SDP...one of those rare card-handling procedures that exemplifies the concept of 'why run when no one is chasing you'. SDP is an open-handed utility tool that conjurers will use to great advantage when creating new effects in the years to come."

2019 was a great year for great books. We had a multitude of worthy candidates. I was worried we would have a tie with four or more books, the voting was so close, but one book rose to the top at the very end and won by one vote. The 2019 Magic Café Book of the Year Award goes to: Interpreting Magic by David Regal!! I own this book and it is a very admirable choice. Congratulations David Regal! Here are the rest of the results: 5 Votes Architect of the Mind by Drew Backenstoss The Magic Rainbow by Juan Tamariz 4 Votes Mythology Codex by Phil Smith Totally Free Will by Mark Chandaue Which Hand Method & Philosophy by Timon Krause 3 Votes Perverse Magic: The First Sixteen Years by Gerald Deutsch 2 Votes The Buena Vista Shuffle Club by Matt Baker Magic is My Weed by Steve Spill Maximum Entertainment 2.0 by Ken Weber 1 Vote Life’s a Beach by Gary Jones The Illusioneer by Carlos Vaquera Pure Imagination by Andi Gladwin, Scott Robinson, and John Campbell Tesseract by Mike Powers Truth Fables by Ben Blau Notes: Pierre Cardinlemon's vote did not count due to having less than 50 posts Secret Language by Helder Guimaraes is deferred until the 2020 Book of the Year thread Jake

I just saw this - how nice! Thank you all for your kind comments. The second printing of the book has arrived in California, but is being delayed at the port by the virus situation. To those of you who may be frustrated that your favorite shop does not have a copy - they will have copies pretty soon (and we want to support the shops, both physical and non-physical).
I have some copies of the first printing available, but if you live outside the U.S. it will be much, much cheaper to purchase the book over there due to Murphy's Magic excellent service. And the two most important things: 1) Stay safe, calm, and kind. 2) There were many lovely books put out this year. I was proud to be in their company and I urge you to build your library with their work as well. Thanks again. This made my day. David |

ANNOUNCEMENT: Due to travel plans changing in relation to current events, some new First Printing copies of Interpreting Magic have made their way to Europe without me. For this reason I will give a discount on the book to FOUR EUROPEANS, and send the book postpaid anywhere in Europe for 50 euros.
I can only do this four times. If you would like to take advantage of this offer, do NOT order from my site. You need to contact me directly at david@davidregal.com Thanks, David |
