I don't Know who Derren Brown is or any other mentalist mentioned here. I am not here because I saw A David Blaine show and am trying to join a fad. However I am new no mentalism, and personally I am here because I feel a Romantic allure to the art.
That goes much deeper than what color am I thinking. I haven't been poisoned by the misconceptions of the art of mentalism. Yet my passion is real and my conceptions limited. Of all the arts mentalism is the most secretive. I ask not your secrets but only the direction to search myself. I trust your valued opinions. Who should I seek knowledge from? |

OK, let's see first, giochi, what are the 13 steps? I know the one-ahead theory. Next, Jurim, I have a Halloween wedding reception booking. I plan on using the one-ahead theory and some PK . What would you suggest?
Next, looch, the glass is half full, but the other one under the table is half empty (always have a back-up plan). And the Chicken came first because you always have a control in any experiment. Craig, there is a mountain of info out there, some good and some bad. That's why I began my search with the experienced like you. Any direction to good articles would be greatly appreciated. |

Prod,
13 Steps is a book by Corinda. Read it. Jurim is correct in prescribing Practical Mental...another book. Read it too. That said, if nothing else (and I'm only telling you this because you seem so darned sincere), go out and buy Osterlind's Mind Mysteries four DVD set. It will change your life. bon chance, django

Nah, man, it was the egg.
Anyone notice the tone in which he typed has changed? If you're planning on performing PK effects, have a look at metal bending, maybe the Banachek PK Silverware video. Or for a nice key bending routine, try Bob Cassidy's "bent on strange".

I'm looking forward to all the research ahead of me. Thank you all for your help.
Hey, looch, I'm not completely sure what you meant the tone of my typing, but just to clarify, my first post was a sincere introduction of who I was, what I know and what I seek. Much to my thankful surprise many replies were posted, some using comedy in like I replied such as yours. So What do you mean? |

OK, I'll explain.
The first post was seemed deliberately OTT to make people think, "OK, this guy is new to this art, he's polite and sincere and is going about things the right way to obtain information, i.e., asking for direction instead of methodology (unlike a lot of people who have posted similar requests)." Then after the comedy and sarcasm of SOME people's responses, it seems like you "came down" back to your original? Self, since the first post you seemed much more natural, hence my highlighting the change in persona and attitude/delivery of your posts. Does that make sense? Anyway, run a search for PK. You will find a lot of good ideas.

Prodigitalmagic, I hope you do not find this pedantic or snide. I just wanted to say that "one-ahead" is not a theory, more a principle or [/i]technique[/i]. It may (or may not) interest you to know that some (T.A. Waters, for example) refer to it as "one-behind". That sounded odd to me at first, but when I considered it a bit, it occurred to me that there was some sense to this as one is generally only "one ahead" at first - thereafter, one is always one behind. Hope that made some sense.
Good luck in your quest for understanding.
There are many tricks, and many effects, but rarely a Grand Effect. There are many entertainers, but few real magicians. Many technicians, but few artists who use their art to explore their vision. - Derren Brown, Absolute Magic
