Looks good. Is it really self-working?
https://www.penguinmagic.com/p/13169 Ad copy: Woody Aragon is known for his elegant self-working magic. In The EP Principle, he not only teaches you a foundational element of self-working magic, but he also shares with you one of his favorite effects as well as new applications to fool the blazes out of your audience. The highlight of this download, which is over a half-hour long, is the Alpha and Omega trick. Woody has taken an effect from The Royal Road to Card Magic and supercharged it with The EP Principle so that it appears more impossible, more hands-off, and more like a miracle. No sleight of hand required and no memorization. The EP Principle will transform your self-working magic into self-working miracles. |

Here's what happens, and why it's AWESOME:
1. Your spectator picks up any number of cards from the deck and counts them secretly and remembers THE NUMBER. 2. Then, as you're showing cards from the rest of the deck, she quietly remembers the card at that number, without saying a word. 3. Here's the crazy part: You're then able to know EXACTLY which card she thought of, without even knowing how many cards she secretly took, OR the order of the cards!! Remember, this is all from a borrowed shuffled deck, and it's self working. That's huge. |

It may just be me, but this sounds like a reworked version of The Rendezvous Force.

Too convoluted. Specs were literally falling asleep.
Perhaps there should be an interval half way through to allow specs to use the bathroom. |

There's something similar in an Aronson book. I don't think there's as much process in the Aronson effect as it sounds in this one. I know I fooled a bunch of guys with the Aronson one. Don't remember which book it is in or the name of it.

I will only consider purchasing this if a bathroom is included.

A very cool, more streamlined effect utilizing a similar principle is Michael Weber and Tim Trono's '23'. In this effect, the spectator cuts off a packet, looks through them and simply thinks of one.
It's all in the reflexes.

This seems similar to Atlas Brookings CRUSADE. Maybe same principle method...

The Crusade plays very well in certain settings, but only because of the excellent patter & presentation Atlas and the other guy came up with. That’s what you paid for, I feel. If this lacks a good presentation...

So I picked this up just to see if it went any further than just the Alpha = Omega effect that I'd already seen... and... it doesn't really. Woody recognizes that all the dealing process is boring and builds that into the presentation and turns it into a joke (you can see it in the earlier promo vid from the same effect he released a few years back in which he builds in a yawn to joke about the process, and then his "song" which can be seen in both demos). At the end there's maybe a little less than 10 minutes where he discusses other ways you can use the principle, and I honestly wish he'd spent a lot more time on that part, because it feels like a lot more can be done with it.
FWIW, if I remember correctly (and I might not), Cameron Francis cites Alpha = Omega trick as part of the inspiration for Deceit Treat, in which he deliberately wanted to come up with a version that uses significantly less process, and I feel Deceit Treat is a much better effect and just as easy to do (though, I think Deceit Treat can be done even better than Cameron's version if you can do a decent top change). I'm not disappointed I purchased this, because it got me thinking about this principle again, and I'm going to play around with some ideas, but the main effect (again, which was already released a few years ago) is just so-so. But, hey, that's on me. I already had the effect from the first time he released it. I had hoped that this would go deeper into the principle as is implied in the effect description -- and, sure, it discusses it for a few minutes, but breezily and without much detail or thought. |

Hi, no2ss! The effect in question is not Deceit Treat. You are thinking of a small packet version of The Tantalizer (which is also the inspiration for Woody's effect) that was included in on the "Ultimate Self Working Card Tricks: Cameron Francis Edition" project. My effect is called Exhausted.
Basically, a spectator cuts off less than half the deck (you honestly don't know how many cards how many cards) and then one is selected and then lost back in the talon. The spectator then deals the cards into two piles and discards one. This is repeated a few times until one is left: their selection. Because you are using less than half the cards, the dealing sequence is fast. Plus I have them deal to keep them interested. The set up for my trick is quite different as the card is positioned very simply without having to count anything.
