Gents. Something I thought I'd share.
One of my all time favourite concepts is an obscure item from My Favourite Card Tricks called Any Four of a Kind. It is a wonderful bit of thinking and I've been using it conjunction with Double Take from Quantum Leaps- another favourite (and a Modern Classic). Double Take is a brilliant, hands off Spectator cuts to the Aces. But imagine if that spectator could cut to any four of a kind named by another. Here's what I do. I open a fresh pack of cards and depending on the brand, leave them or manipulate them to Ace thru King New Deck Order. I open with Ortiz's Against All Odds. I then do two out faros as I have someone name any four of a kind. I casually spread and cut the named set to the top, casually false shuffle- and in to Double Take. The impossibility factor here is very high. It's a stunner. From a fairly and thoroughly shuffled deck, a spectator cuts to any four of a kind named by another spectator. Already sorry I gave it away. But hey, I like to share. Keep putting the good stuff to work fellas. -Fish |

Interesting. I've done a similar thing over the years. But - as I've written many times, I haven't used my own deck working for laymen, I simply don't carry one - over a few decades. So it has to be FABSDIU (from a borrowed shuffled deck in use). And, I can't do perfect faros with most decks that are handed to me - can't even do 'em without pain because of my old fingers. So:
A bit of acting is required. I've just done a 4-ace effect and lost the aces into the deck afterward. I look at one spectator and say, "Aces are my favorite four of a kind; aside from aces what's your favorite? Sixes? Interesting. Oh, wait, there's another four-ace thing I want to try." Run through the deck, faces toward you, searching for and removing the aces, and secretly set the four sixes to top as you do. I don't want go into detail here - I've written/taught often enough, in a number of my books, how to set cards (up to half a deck) what I call "impromptuly." Easy enough to do even while searching for a thought-of card. Etc. Gotta' leave that to you. Do the 4-ace thing, or whatever, keeping the four 6s on top. Overhand injog shuffle as you turn to that spectator and say, "Remind us; what did you say was you favorite four of a kind? Sixes, of course." As I've also written countless times - the overhand injog shuffle covers a multitude of sins! And into my Double Take. For those who may care - Double Take is in Quantum Leaps. My re-write and update of Quantum Leaps, along with Trend Setters, Dingle's Deceptions, The Great Divide, Numero Uno, is in LORAYNE: THE CLASSIC COLLECTION, Volume 3. Heck of a bargain. Over the years so many have told me that any single item out of that book is worth more than the cost of the book. You can learn more about it at harryloraynemagic.com . So, yeah, ya' gotta' start reading the good stuff! Thanks for this plug opportunity!

Maybe I should mention here that I end this routine with HaLo Aces.
Someone names any four of a kind and the Spectator cuts to that set, a la Double Take. I then assemble the pack, and while shuffling talk about card games and high cards- into HaLo Aces. So It's Ortiz's Against All Odds, Lorayne's Double Take, Halo Aces. |

He has published so much great material it is staggering as you know. Any Four of a Kind from My Favoirite Card Tricks is an item I've never heard of anyone using. It's a gem. |
