Personally, my preference is to change from black and white jokers to court cards because I find the multi-colored full face cards to make for a very striking change. https://www.penguinmagic.com/p/9134 |

Just a bit late to the game, but thank you Enders Game for the updated review on NFW. I went out and bought this after your review and after a recent You Tube video of NFW, as performed by Doug Conn. I also want to thank you for including all of the previous demo's of NFW. As much as I like/respect Locopo and Lax, I like Paul Richards demo (I'm assuming it was him, as I recognize the voice) when Elmwood sold it. I like the idea of having 2 effects (Jokers turning over and the surprise change to Aces). With Locopo and Lax's version, you basically show 4 Jokers and turn them into Aces...basically only 1 effect. I also like Richard's handling of showing the 4 Jokers in the beginning...very fair IMO, causing them to turn over, then the Ace reveal. I hope I can discern his handling by watching the demo over and over. Thank you again. I just don't know why I never purchased this when it first came out.

I just ran across this; it was great to revisit this trick. I had purchased this years ago from Penguin, but never got around to studying the printed instructions. I just looked at my Penguin account and magically those new videos have appeared. Awesome! The original handling obviously made this a classic, but as I compare the versions now it seems clunky and wonky and slightly illogical (that first display...). I prefer Rick Lax's streamlines version, which cuts to the chase, similar to Richard Sanders's Ace. The Thanks Enders, for making me realize that Penguin occasionally adds new video instructions to some tricks long after you've bought them.

A classic no doubt. But the biggest con for hobbyists in real world (eg not TikTok) is that the cards can't be examined. And there is no question that anyone with even the least bit of interest in what just transpired will want to take a closer look at the cards. If you're the hired help, you put the cards away and move onto another effect or hop to another table. If you're having a beer with your friends, well, you have to either stash the cards which is disappointing or switch the cards at a time when they have all the heat in the world on them. Neither ideal. So unfortunately not practical IMHO. NFW was actually a big part of the inspiration behind us inventing the Platt Pad. But even I can admit that's not something I want to carry around with me just to do a packet trick.

NFW is one of my most popular tricks. I immediately follow it with a backfire type trick, I'm sorry, I don't remember the name of it, I believe it's one that David Acker does. It involves giving the spectator the two black aces, you keep the red aces, suddenly they change places. The beauty of it is you seemingly give all four cards to the spectator, while keeping the gimmicked card hidden. The cards get put away, and you're on to your next trick.
