I just got an email for this, available from Penguin. It's a $9.95 download.
I've gotten so many disappointing $9.95 downloads from various places. For anyone who owns this, Is this really as good as it sounds? https://www.penguinmagic.com/p/13149 |

Buy Al Koran's Legacy booklet instead...
If it's what I'm thinking it is, you'll be using a hardback book with a dustjacket... The conditions are correct.
I've asked to be banned

Seems similar to "Word in a Million" by JB Magic?

In comparison to many modern mentalism books that seem to comprise of huge text, lots of blank pages and very little content it's a massive book. I'm fairly sure it's the same trick. No idea why it's being released as a single trick download. Looks like a shameless penguin cash in. I assume Richard Osterlind did a show for Penguin and they've divided it up to make as much money as possible. No blame on Richard here, I've heard about penguin doing the same to other people over the years. Legacy is a cheap book and there's some fantastic material in, would recommend it over a download. |

Ed Wood, you are incorrect. When you do a download with Penguin, you know you are doing a download with Penguin. Richard gets royalties for every download sold. Penguin treats their artists very fairly. I've certainly never had an issue with them.
Besides, he does an intro to the trailer. How could you think he wouldn't know about the download when he speaks directly to the camera about it?

Richard Osterlind is a substantial interpreter of the tradition. While he has pioneered some ideas, approaches, and effects, most of his books and videos are interpreting, teaching, updating, or building upon the innovations of Corinda, Annemann, and others. (Indeed, not everything in Corinda and Annemann published was original with them.)
Much of Richard's teaching shows how to understand and perform "classic" mentalism. This download that demonstrates and teaches a version of a Koran effect is a worthy example of Richard's vocation. This is neither unusual nor theft. (Even the Bible has been made more available by an endless chain of commentators and interpreters.) George |

The rights to all Al Koran effects were owned by Martin Breese and on his death went to the person (who's name I forget) who owns Lybrary.com, I'm sure they have his permission to teach this so I don't for a second believe this is theft. Just unnecessary. p.s. no one owns the rights to the bible and Al korans Legacy contains some genuine miracles, no fiction |

I'm sure RIchard got permission. While Penguin ultimately decides which tricks they choose to release as downloads, the artist still has to pitch the trick. So Richard clearly thought this worthy of release or else he wouldn't have pitched it to Penguin.

Fair enough, Ed.,. if you judge that a product is not necessary, that is a good reason to not purchase it! (But your own heels seemed to be dug in more than necessary.)

I understand. Want some cheese with that whine? (When I once said that to my wife, she did NOT find it amusing!)

Or you might find that you already own it, as I did ... it's in Tarbell (vol 6).

I love Richard Osterlind and this isn't a bad effect, if you're willing to put in the time and effort to make the gimmick, but IMO this particular download doesn't offer much more than the original. Mostly, it's targeted and priced to those who would never be bothered to read the original. If that's your situation, Richard always offers a detailed yet understandable explanation. His 13 Steps download detailing his customization and use of the nail writer, on the other hand, gave some great detail on that process that I'd never been able to find in print.
