Well, the general rule is to be polite, appropriate and considerate, the rest you learn through experience. Only if you have the correct personality can you be otherwise.
One book that talks about performance in general and how to approach your audience is Absolute Magic. While it is not specific to your question I think it's worth a read by anyone, if only to make you think about your own performance. Marc Climens |

Dariel Fitzkee's Trilogy
1) Showmanship for Magicians 2) The Trick Brain 3) Magic by Misdirection All these books are highly regarded and are true classics in magic. The information in them are extremely valuable and will give you lots of tips on performance and handling spectators. Another brilliant book on the subject is 'The Books of Wonder' vol. 1. |
