One of The Magic Cafe's own regular posters, Peter Loughran, has released an awesome effect called The Ultimate Cane Gimmick. This gimmick allows you to turn your ordinary Fantasio vanishing cane into the 'ultimate' dancing torch!
I just got around to playing with this and it is very cool. The gimmick is made extremely well out of a Fantasio cap for a vanishing cane. It is made so that even though it is 'on fire', it will not melt your cane. One of the really cool features about this is that the gimmick provides more weight to the cane, thus making the balance point higher on the cane. With it in place, the cane will "dance" a lot further away from you...providing for an even more magical effect! It looks very cool! Also, the flames on the gimmick get to a really nice size, and are another great psychological convincer that no threads or anything are used to create the effect. Finally, the last feature that I want to mention is that the "gimmick" is retracted right into the cane when you vanish it, leaving it set-up for the next time that you want to use it. Very nice touch, I liked that a lot. The instructions are great and have illustrations to make setting your cane up ever easier. Overall, I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to either add a dancing cane to their routine, wants to make their dancing cane different (after all, this one IS on fire! ) or that has a Fantasio vanishing cane lying around and has nothing to do with it. http://www.masterofillusions.ca -Corey

Corey you are right on the money about the fire dispelling the spectators perception that there could possibly be any threads, that was one of the reasons why I wanted to invent the Ultimate Cane.
The fire also makes the effect that much more beautiful to watch, Its funny I will do an Asrah and yet after the show more people talk about the 'Dancing fire cane' that vanishes than they do about the 'Floating Lady' that vanishes! Thanks for nice comments, P.

Peter,
Does your "fire gimmick" is including "Dancing Cane gimmick" or I should buy again the gimmick for turning vanishing cane to dancing cane? Hengky |

You don't need it. Hengky. It wouldn't work anyways as the balance point is higher up on the cane. Peter shows you exactly what you need to do to the cane to make it a dancing, which is very simple.

Corey is right, you don't need it and it won't work, I use a completely different method which as Corey stated earlier allows the gimmick to retract right up inside the cane once you vanish it!

Peter,
Do your gimmick just need a regular fuel to light up the fire? And is your "dancing gimmick" is same as the old one or just more invisible? Hengky |

Yes it uses any regular lighter fluid. My method for making the cane dance is different from the one you have, and still just as effective plus you won't have to detach the dancing rig in order to make it vanish. Does this help?

Peter,
I have bought your Ultimate Cane and I got some problems to make the cane balance. I do not have any experience with dancing cane so could you help me to make the cane balance? How can you know that the cane has balanced? Hengky |

Hengky please check your email. It is fairly simple. If you still have some questions, let me know I will be more than happy to help you out. I won't stop helping you until you are able to use the prop perfectly.

The gimmick is great, I would highly recommend this to anyone! I'm not a dancing cane kind of guy, but this is making me seriously consider it.

Thanks Ichazod,
At least I didn't set the stage on fire in Turkey... Like I blew out the power on the third floor of our hotel testing flash pots... P.

Can you do all the moves with the ultimate cane that you could do with a dancing cane? Like can you do the kick start move? Thanks
|
|||||||||
Peter Loughran V.I.P. Ontario, Canada 2683 Posts |
All the moves can be done done with it before it is afire, however you are limited to mostly the basic moves once the cane is lit. I do about 30 seconds of it before it is afire, doing some of the more elaborate moves, and then to dispell the belief of threads, the cane is lit and I do the basic moves with it on fire again for no longer than about 20-30 seconds, finishing with the cane vanishing into two 18 inch black silks at the end.
So the routine has a begining, a middle and a finale. But remember keep the whole routine short, that is the key to most successful dancing cane routines. Best, P.

I am really confused on what you get?
If I order the vanishing cane with the fire tip does it also work as a danching cane also Peter? Like if I order your package number 2 that coems with a cane does it do everything you showed in the demo?

Hi Chris, kit one comes with just the torch cap, you supply the cane, and using our instructions you attach the thread. kit 2 comes with the cane and the torch cap you still attach the thread yourself using our instructions, as the balance point is a preference for many. The cool thing is, that when the cane vanishes, it sucks up the thread with it inside the cane, and protects the thread until your next show. Once you expand the cane you may have to adjust the length of the cane again to right balance point and then twist it tight at that point. Or you can simply move the balance point, either way only takes a few seconds to reset.
