Hi all!
I bought many years ago a small copper chop cup by Morrisey and I used it sometime. Now I realized that "something" in the bottom of the cup has broken or is moving and the cup, that obviously still work, make noise and it is similar to a rattle box. In my opinion it can't be used because is a suspicious item. Is that happened to anyone of you? Is there a way to fix that? This chop cup is not so expensive, but I didn't like to buy it and to find the same issue again... even though probably it is not available anymore. Please let me know if you have any idea/information about this kind of problem. Thanks and bye. |

Last news.... the ball drops nos. The chop cup doesn't work anymore. Incredible. It is almost new... used a couple of times. I don't think it can be fixed... so, any suggestion? Can I buy something similar? In size (pocket version) above all.

That's to bad, I have one of these and like doing the Dennis Loomis routine pitched by Jamie Grant. I don't have any helpful suggestions though sorry, had to stop using my larger chop cup for this same reason. Hopefully the Café will come up with a solution.

I would suggest using this as an opportunity to get away from metal cups. They kind of suggest mag...s.....
Why not go for Petty's Chopped, or else get Hecklau's Penguin lecture and do something like that. You can do these with a plastic cup, leather, or a paper coffee cup. If you could do magic for real, would you really do it with a shiny metal magician's play cup.? |

Thanks for reminding me I will evaluate something impromptu with common cups as you said. THe problem is that I still like the small pocket metal chop cup I'll try to do something else... |

I've just ordered the Presti cup, it is similar in operation to Craig Petty's Chop but uses a different tool to help make the magic happen. I'm looking forward to using the leather cup that comes with the Presti cup package but I also like that I will have the freedom to switch cups depending on what my needs are for specific performance situations.

H I Mich. I bought and used Morrisey Chop cups many years ago.
I eventually took them apart to use the copper insert for other Copper Cups that someone spun for me. The cup insert that holds the spacing is a fairly tight fit and it is glued together with a ceramic disk magnet. I was able to pry mine apart carefully on one but ended up destroying another. The rattling you hear obviously is the magnet come loose. If you do by chance get the bottom disk out without ruining it & the cup....you can replace the ceramic magnet with a smaller rare earth magnet. You'll also have to replace the balls probably because they may attach too strong. I always make my own balls now and it is trial an error to come up with the right combo that releases the ball when desired....not too easy or too hard setting down. If you have, as mentioned Hecklau's Just a cup....then you have the gimmick that you can use with other ungimmicked cups, bigger or smaller. Give this a go. It plays a bit differently than your regular gimmicked chop cup, and may take you a bit more work to figure out a routine...but IMHO it s a fantastic alternative. I've had mine since it first came out and I often use it with both larger and smaller cups. Plus you can make your own gimmicked balls as it is not so precise for how strong the ball attracion must be. When you release.....it releases, if you know what mean. Good luck and hope things work out with the cups |

Hello Mich
Could you take a "punch" of some kind and a hammer and punch a depression in the bottom of a cup to firmly hold the gimmick in place? It would seem this dimple in the bottom would serve as a provision for the ball to rest in and not arouse the suspicion of onlookers. Julie |

Unfortunately, as you suggested, is the only way to fix, if it works, the problem. So I think that I'll change the strategy and I won't buy any other chop cup from Morrisey anymore. |
