Everyone should bring their chains, Shell Games, and Three-Card Montes. Soapy Night is going to be the first of an annual ritual at the Castle. Eventually we want to hook up electronically to the same events in Denver and Skaguay. Soapy was one of Vernon's personal heroes, and he wrote about him several times. I think it only right that the Magic Castle celebrate someone who had such an effect on the thinking of conmen everywhere. Among his proteges was Alexander "The Man Who Knows" and Wilson Mizner, the founder of Hollywood's famous Brown Derby restaurant. He was a friend of Wyatt Earp's and Bat Masterson's, as well as many famous political and literary figures of the nineteenth century. He was a strange mix of ruthless badman and advocate of generous, kindly social policy, as well as the first genuine American gangster. My kind of role model.

Everyone who can make it on the 8th should come for a fun time and informative history.

Plus, I will be working the WC Fields bar with the shell game and other foolishness, and Chef Anton will perform his incredible trick shot routines--billiards beyond belief.

Pete: When was I ever not thirsty?
