Reader’s Digest version: some guy was on an active runway in Austin, TX. The pilot of the plane landing on the runway tried to maneuver (swerve?) to avoid him. It didn’t work: the plane hit and killed the guy. |

I’m surprised airport security didn’t intercede and prevent the guy from walking on the runway. It happened to me once.

Wasn't it more of procession with the moving ramp set into place and then the airline staff led the passengers in?

Yep, decades ago in Presque Isle Maine we would board a jumper to connect with Newark. We would have to walk out to the plane and board. Funny/scary thing is if you were on an early flight they did not have anyone to man the metal detector (this pre-9/11) so we would connect with Newark and arrive on the secure side there unchecked.
I'm sure they corrected it since then.
I still recall the day I met Beaker from the Muppets. He said to me "Meep, meep, mee mee mee Meep!", and that has made all the difference.

Yipes, seeing two passengers taking a selfie next to the tarmac, (only separated by a cord) makes me now think we might see more accidents as mentioned in the OP. Mr Salk is right in warning us to look both ways! Lynn
