Hey Folks! I'm going to start a 2011 Book of the Year thread, but first we need to populate a list of the 2011 books. Here is what I have so far:
A Book in English by Woody Aragon The Book of Destiny by Larry Barnowsky The Open Prediction Project by Thomas Baxter My (Almost) 50 Years in Magic by Tom Craven A Cut Above by Msgr. Vincent Foy Hold’em Magic by Tom Frame Apple of my Eyes by Phil Goldstein Reflections by Helder Guimaraes Trade of the Tricks: Inside the Magician’s Craft by Graham Jones Psycho-Chronetic by Alain Nu Magic Page by Page by Patrick Page Making the Cut by Ryan Schlutz Nick Trost’s Subtle Card Creations Volume 3 by Nick Trost California Carmageddon by Michael Weber An Exploration at the Intersection of Magic and Theatre by Rob Zabrecky Maelstrom by Tom Stone Please provide the names of 2011 books so we can add them to the list for the Official 2011 BOTY thread. It's nice to see somebody wanting to fill in the 2011 hole in the list.
A re-vote might be fun, but a little digging yields this post: Vlad (who ran the award in 2011) posted on the 2012 BOY thread: "While I am glad we have a winner this year, I still am saddened that last year turned out the way it did. Woody Aragon's A Book in English was the winner but the trolls and banned members forced me to close the award. I am thankful that this year we avoided that." https://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/view......tart=110 2012 was the start of the mentalists' long campaign of ballot-box-stuffing to capture this award. The 2012 Café Book of the Year went to Luca Volpe's Emotional Mentalism, and then a week later the Café's Mentally Speaking subforum held a vote on the Best Mentalism Book of 2012, for which Luca Volpe's book received ZERO votes when mentalists had to vote in front of their peers. (Bruce Bernstein's excellent Unreal won that award in a crushing landslide.) That thread is here. Hi Tim. Thanks! I wasn’t aware of that. Looks like we can update the BOTY thread with the 2011 information. I don’t see a need to revote on the 2011 books. Looks like 2004 is next on the list.

After the force is the worse book I ever read. And the companion DVD shows how a bad magician Ron Frost is. I was shocked anyone considered the possibility this work could being published. I can’t imagine this book is in the same list as the James one.

I'm a bit confused, my apologies. It looked like Tim Cavendish wrote something that can be easily verified, is that not the case, Luca Volpe? Or is it true that your book won one award (congrats) then didn't win another (it happens)? And why is stating that "hate"?
And, whether or not it is "hate", how does that have anything to do with all the great things you seem to be doing lately? I am so confused, am I missing something? |
