I thought maybe we could have a thread free from policy or political concerns--not that's there's anything wrong with that IMO, but it might be nice just to have a thread where people post what their experience has been so far. Since we come from a wide variety of locations it might be nice to hear how things are currently going with you.
Since last time I posted, the wail of sirens every day has considerably lessened; I still do not go into stores as I am extra careful living with my wife who is possibly at risk. Several people close to me have tested positive; fortunately none of them have died. Quite alarming making sure they get the help they need. More than a handful of acquaintances and friends of friends have passed away. I think I get lazier each day--where earlier on my day was very active, my discipline in reading, writing, magic, exercising and other activities is not as strong as it was at the beginning of this. I feel less guilty if I don't get anything done. Not happy with my unruly hair. Enjoying "seeing" friends and family on Zoom, and taking a couple of classes over Zoom also, which is fun. My four siblings, who are spread out across the country, recently had a nice get together via Zoom, which was a nice surprise--and something we rarely get to do in normal times. I'm fortunate that I am retired and don't have to worry about making a living. In some ways, the lockdown is a less hectic life, less social pressure. On the other hand, I'm probably doing more introspection than is healthy. And under and over it all is a feeling of unreality, waiting to wake up from an alternate reality. And how's it going by you?

Still working 6 days a week. They locked down the base for a few days after a worker at the dining facility tested positive. I still go shopping on my day off at a mall/grocery where they have had 9 confirmed cases. Masks are required to enter and you have to put on oversized deli gloves before shopping (I bring/wear latex gloves).
Our company instituted social distancing in the office; only if your section has more than one person per section on duty. So a majority of the team are working half days. My position only has 1 counterpart so we work the full day and are exposed twice as much. I don't wear a mask in the office, but have hand sanitizer and rubbing alcohol on my desk. Vacations are the bigger concern as we work overseas, airports/countries will need to be open without any self isolation prior to flying. Airline prices are really good right now too. So it will most likely be August before I get to go home and have a break.
I still recall the day I met Beaker from the Muppets. He said to me "Meep, meep, mee mee mee Meep!", and that has made all the difference.

Thank you for this thread, Jack.
I've been wondering how things have been going with folks in various areas, myself. It's nice to have somewhere to discuss and process here. I'm saddened today about Roy and my heart and thoughts go out to him and to Siegfried and Lynette and their friends and families. The immensity of Roy's contribution to magic and life itself- the gift of inspiration he bestowed upon any inclined to receive it is on my mind today.🌹💫✨🐯🐮🐱🐩🐦🐾🐬🐘🐴🐲🐶🌴🌵🌟🎩🎭🎼💡🔔🎵🎨🔓🔮🗽💯♿🔗💖💞💪👍👌👏✌👀👂🙌🌷 |

As a Sportsman, I have managed to survive all my life without ever having a regular income but at the moment there are no games; no racing, no poker, no sports, no Guys and Dolls. Good luck.

Hey Tommy how's the form? What sports did you play and are you still active? My whole life is sport orientated. Played high level soccer underage here in Irelsnd, played senior club football (Gaelic Football) with my division. I still play and train 10-12 times a week (running, turbo bike sessions, recovery sessions, yoga, strength work etc) I also own a gym along with being a strength and conditioning coach plus my wife owns a yoga centre. I don't meet many people into sport and magic...for whatever reason they don't tend to mix!
Animated puppets how are you? If you don't mind me asking where are you based? I love to travel myself and have friends working all over the globe - I always kind of wondered what it would be like to work on a different continent for large chunks of time! I know I'm probably being nosey asking these questions but I see you guys posting from time to time and genuinely interested! P.S. Jack enjoyed reading your post! |

Pete, there are those who gamble and there are those who make a living from those who gamble and we Guys and Dolls in this game style ourselves sports, old sport. I host gambling parties but despite the casinos being closed we are getting no games because all the sports are at home playing on line. We also have an interest in a bar but I cannot see that reopening if this lockdown goes on much longer. I have been given an old age state pension, which is a grand total of £40 a week.

They may be locking down our base again. When I went for my run I saw 2 buses and 1 van being escorted by Military Police. The peope in the buses/van were in hooded white suites with masks.
After my run my co-worker stated that they took all the dining facility workers away and closed the base gyms...

Thanks Tommy! I have never ventured in that world - I have a buddy who made somewhat of a living playing poker in a casino in the city here and also online. It must be a complete and utter disaster for the likes of yourself having no games, pub closed and surviving on £40 a week! How are you managing that? I think pubs here are reopening in August (Phase 5) though they are pushing for sooner - lots of them will never reopen again... Our gym and yoga centre won't reopen until August though in the meantime myself and the wife are receiving the Pandemic Payment of €350 each a week. It's keeping us going though you know yourself with multiple rents, electricity, gas, food....doesn't last too long!
Animated Puppets - sorry to hear that! They eased some restrictions here today and again on the 18th though they have warned that they could reintroduce the heavy restrictions once again if the numbers go back up. I think now people are getting pretty sick of it. |

Received this today in my work email.
1. **** ******* were turned away from work today at both *** and *** due to a high volume of positives. 2. There were 66 positive from the testing with 6 critical. Critical means symptomatic. That is a significant jump from the 1 positive and 1 inconclusive they told us earlier this week...

"ARNPRIOR -- Renfrew County’s top doctor says it is a matter of when, not if, the increasing COVID-19 cases spill over into the region from Ottawa."
https://ottawa.ctvnews.ca/mobile/renfrew.......5130916 At least they're actually announcing cases here now by town. Early on, they would only announce county for "privacy reasons". Arnprior has a population of about 10,000. They were concerned if town was reported, the public might be able to identify individuals with confirmed cases, as though that would be harmful somehow. It became mandatory to wear masks indoors in apartment building common areas just a few weeks ago. A lot of folks have been lax on masking and social distancing and wanting to gather at open mics and barbeques and things. I think it's time to back things up again. Numbers are spiking in Canada and Ontario and Ottawa, as could be expected with all of the reopenings. I hope more people will start to take this more seriously. South Park recently had an episode called the Pandemic Special.
One of their spoofs was the coining of people wearing masks around their chins as Chin Diapers. It has gone from letting your nose peak out to loosely hanging upon the chin.

"On Feb. 26, the health unit issued a warning following numerous positive cases in Arnprior and McNab/Braeside."
https://www.toronto.com/news-story/99956......-feb-27/ "A rising number of COVID-19 cases in the Arnprior area over the past week is being linked to a social gathering in Renfrew County. The Renfrew County and District Health Unit says over the past week, nine residents of Arnprior and five individuals that reside in the Township of McNab/Braeside have tested positive for novel coronavirus. The health unit has also identified 37 high-risk contacts and six local businesses affected by the cases. 'Many of these cases attended the same social gathering, and several others are considered close contacts of those that attended the gathering,' said the health unit in a statement. The Renfrew County and District Health Unit has directed all persons and businesses impacted to self-monitor and/or self-isolate until exposure and risks have been assessed by the contact tracing team. 'I really encourage the residents of Arnprior to take this virus seriously and not let your guard down,' said Arnprior Mayor Walter Stack." https://ottawa.ctvnews.ca/social-gatheri.......5325979 |

Nice to see you, gaddy. Take care.
It's troubling that we're so close to getting the public vaccinated, and all the while, some are continually ignoring safety measures. Numbers rising here. I hope they go ahead and lock it right down until those who want the vaccine, receive it. At least, numbers are finally going public here- I hope it will be taken more seriously. "According to the health unit, those who were infected then worked at or visited seven local businesses while contagious. The health unit closed one business, Cushman said, while several other businesses chose to temporarily shut down on their own. The cases involve roughly five households, the health unit said. 'What you're seeing here, I think, is just sort of wanton disrespect and neglect,' Cushman said." https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/re.......5930838 |

And it is a pleasure to converse with you again, Laurie! I wish the circumstances were better, though...
It's tragically ironic that this is the case- Where we've all sacrificed so much for so long only to have all of the benefits of that loss disappear in a fit of pique and/or carelessness born of weariness... I've often said that one of the most unfortunate symptoms of this virus is how casually one can disregard All of the warning signs until, of course, one ends up in the ICU. "It's just like a mild flu..." say the people whose relatives aren't waiting in line for a ventilator. if the symptoms of this disease or something more kin to, say Ebola where you're bleeding out of your eyeballs and anus it would be a little harder for the deniers to gain any traction... But here we are, behaving badly until the very last moment when someone else's hard work swoops in to save us with another miracle cure. Possibly.

In NYC, the vaccine roll out for over 65s and those with co-morbidities has really geared up in the last two weeks. It's a bit of a pain to get an appointment, but I would say any person in those risk groups is able to get a vaccine if they want one at this point.
From what I've seen from the national death toll numbers, it looks like they've decreased about a third since the beginning of the year, which is certainly a good sign, but the numbers are still above what they were last summer. I do worry about the national push for school and eatery openings. Everywhere that's been done, the numbers go back up. Can openings be done safely? I think so, but it's just bizarre to me that the pols and business people who are pushing for that kind of opening are often the same ones who do not want to actually figure out how (or spend the money?) to open such establishments safely. Right now, I'm leaning towards the pessimistic side and think we may snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

I’m 75, got my first Moderna injection a couple of weeks ago. Have been going to the gym, getting coffee at Dunkin’ Donuts, going to the grocery store ever since this all started. While I’m concerned, I wear a mask and keep my distance. It’s frustrating to see people, especially in the gym, wearing their masks incorrectly. ( I tell them about it , BTW )
Having said that, I believe we have the wherewithal to open schools safely right now. I’ll refrain from getting into the politics of why schools aren’t opening now. I live in Maryland. |

I can't speak from experience about schools outside NYC, though I suspect most big city school systems will have the same issue as here in NYC--how do you have all children return to a school building and still maintain social distancing?
With a class of 34, you are literally looking at one foot as the greatest distance among students; if a teacher needs to walk from the front of the room to the back of the room, you are within inches of students. The worst part though is that there is no air circulation in most classrooms--in cold weather if the window is closed, it's airless. It's a real breeding ground for viruses. Not necessarily insurmountable, but I don't see anyone actually trying to solve these kinds of problems and actually asking the people that work in these buildings what their needs are.
