That wasn't Minch that replied. Not sure if learachel has a notification list or not, but I doubt it.

Minch does have a mailing list, though. Go to the Hermetic Press website and sign up (http://www.hermeticpress.com).
For the record, until the Tamriz book comes out in English, I officially don't like you Spanish folks nor Jason England. -Jim

I WILL ADD FENIK, HE HAS GREAT THINGS WITH THE MEMO DECK Could anybody say some more about Fenik and whether his work is published (and in which language)? |

Does anyone know if the Tamariz memorized deck was designed for built in effects like the aronson stack? Or was it designed for randomess and ease of getting into from NDO?
Reason I ask is that I have been using the aronson stack for awhile and love it, and now that another stack is being published in english I would like to know the versatility of it in terms of built in effects. I'm not so interested in spelling and poker deals but more along the lines of ease of jazzing (if you know what I mean). |

I think I've heard that Tamariz has a few tricks that are stack dependent, but not nearly as many as Aronson. I use the Aronson but what I like about the Tamariz stack is it looks more random and there aren't clumps of cards together like the queens and jacks. The Tamariz can also be shuffled into from memorized order, but one isn't very often in that situation.

"The Tamariz can also be shuffled into from memorized order..."
This is a HUGE advantage. But isn't it only true for cards sold in Europe that are arranged differently out of the case than in the U.S.? Gianni |

Gianni,
The Tamariz stack can be gotten into from new deck order. Even if the deck is a US playing card company deck. There are some minor adjustments you have to make, and they are all explained in the book. Jason

It is an advantage to be able to shuffle into it, but according to Pit Hartling it takes a while to shuffle into so it's not very practical for every performance. I trust that Pit Hartling wouldn't lie.

Never said he couldn't. btw, I recently looked up some of Harvey Berg's thinking on the memorized deck and it too is brilliant.

Can anyone tell me what a memorized deck actually is?

A deck which has been memorized!
A deck in which the cards are arranged so that you can quickly translate a card to a specific numbered value or viceversa. For example in the Aronson stack, 26=QH, QH=26. Or Ace of Spades = 6, 6 = Ace of Spades. You do this for all 52 cards. |

Hmm...I'm intrigued, but I don't quite understand what you mean, can anyone explain the aronson stack in more detail?
Thanks, -Niko

Niko, I suggest you get his " a stack to remember". I recently bought his book "Bound to please" and it is a compilation of much of his work. A stack to remember is one of them. I learned the Aronson stack in a couple of hours, so it is easy. With this stack you can do a lot of effects, like dealing 5 progressively better poker hands, a perfect bridge hand a.s.f. In the book you will also find a wonderful routine called "shuffle-bored" It has a lot of variations, with or without a memorized deck.

Niko,
Aronson has a free excellent .pdf intro to memorized deck work on his website called "Memories are Made of This." Go to http://www.simonaronson.com/memorizedhome.htm Jack Shalom

Niko, You might want to shop around for the best deck to memorize. I'm happy with the Aronson but others find that the Tamariz, Joyal, etc. suit them better.
