Starting in 1978, I was a frequent visitor to China. When magic became my passion, I'd do a little magic for the people that I'd meet. Then I'd ask where the magic shop was. I searched Beijing, Shenyang, Guangzhou, Nanning, Guilin, Chengdu, and other cities and never found a magic shop. My wife, who I bought for 200 yuan, even helped me search.
Nowadays there are Chinese props and Chinese magicians everywhere! https://youtu.be/InRh4B3TFck PS - Buying your wife is a Chinese tradition. Mommy and Daddy each got 100 yuan. |

Perhaps, but China Magic, the outfit behind that video peddles pirated wares. Stay far away.

For a real set, it’s hard to find a “true” csb set (where the insert is smaller and blends with the inner “ring” of the Morgan), but Kueppers and lassen are my suggestions for silver. Though lassen’s stuff can easily go for up to 3x or more than a Kueppers set. |

Mason’s CSB at least in the WL version that I have, has a silver outer rim, so the WL looks great

For Dollar Ultimate CSB... Go with Bluether.

Steve C,
Contact Joe Berman who is the US sales and distribution. Contact him at this email: joe.bluethermagic@gmail.com The link in your posting shows Bluether’s CSB 2.0, but on this Original Post you are looking for their Ultimate CSB. THANKS STEPH

Steve C, I see I didn’t clearly respond to that question.
CSB 2.0 is a standard CSB. Ultimate CSB is a 2.0 PLUS a Morgan Shell that allows the assembled CSB gaff to appear to be a single Morgan. So both look great, it’s about what options do you want. Cheers and Blessings Steph

Hi Steph,
Thanks for the info buddy. I contacted Joe and have ordered a CSB 2.0 'nested' set. Apparently this is the one you mentioned. Thanks for the recommendation : ) |

Yeah it is like $75 rather than regular CSB2.0 $60 I think.
Later, Steph

Griz, Order an Ultimate CSB from Bluether Magic. Uses best replica Morgan available. Good recommendation Steph. This is certainly a very nice set, and the fit of the shells is excellent!! The only small discrepancy I see is that if I wanted to use this as a traditional CSB set (without the additional Morgan [), the gold outer rim of the Chinese [ doesn't match the silver of the Morgan C/S insert when I show the nested gaff as a Morgan? Any tips to get around this? Thanks Stephon, BW Steve |

Get patina solution and age the rim of the shell if possible

Thanks Jxb. I needed the outer rim to look more 'silver' rather than darker though? Anyway I saw a post by Steph from a while ago on a different thread where he encounters something similar. I took his advice and very gently and carefully sanded just the outer rim of the [ (the thin edge on the [ is already silver). I think the result is pretty good. The colour is now about halfway between the gold on the rest of the Chinese [ and the silver of the dollar side of the insert. This means it now works in both cases, as it's close enough to gold to not stand out, and likewise with the silver nested gaff. Awesome.
As I said before, the coverage and fit of the shells is really good, with almost no 'talking' at all. The other very nice touch is that the c/s insert isn't wafer thin by any means, and the outer edge is fully copper coloured, which makes it fully angle proof. For those who can look past the fact that these are replicas, this has to be some of the best value for money around. And Joe is a very nice guy to deal with. BW |

Steve C:
Concerning the visible edge of Chinese Coin on the Silver CSB Gaff, and how to handle it? ANGLES. Until Lassen came up with a *Infinity edge* everyone has been GAGA about the Silver edge without a thin brass edge. But, has anyone consider how crappy the Chinese looks with a silver edge? No matter how you slice it for CSB gaff, you can’t 100% hide everything. When I’m displaying the gaff as the apparent Silver Coin, I lower my hand and cupping my fingers slightly. So the spectator sees mostly the face of the coin, rather than the edge. Cupping the fingers also helps to further obscure any glance of the edge too. With both together you have NO FEAR to see the brass edge! Infinity Edges are JUST for Magicians guilt! LOL Even the worst CSB gaff can confidently be handled! Cheers Steph

Hi Steph. Yep this sounds like great advice. Thank you. I think I'm definitely guilty of 'magician's guilt' so it's good to have this pointed out
As I said, the Bluether set is good quality and I'm really happy to have a nice option in dollar sized coins. It does seem that the more 'traditional' type of CSB with larger rim on the shell and smaller insert is becoming rarer. The one on TC's site does look amazing though!! Oh boy!! Regarding angles, you're definitely right. It's just my luck that my very favourite CSB routine from Bannon's 'smoke & mirrors' requires the coins to be tabled which makes covering angles a little trickier. Then again, is this actually a requirement or can I think of a good workaround (which is all part of the fun after all). Great discussion and advice. Cheers Steph, Steve |

Steve c,
I do not have *smoke & mirrors* so Im not accustomed to the CSB routine you mentioned. See if tabled coins can be used on spectator’s palms. If ‘touch’ is an issue, you can drape a napkin over the palm as a tablecloth as a chuckle. That would keep feeling things they shouldn’t and meddle with things they shouldn’t. LOL Blessings Steph
