I was cleaning out some "old" supplies and found some folding coins that have rotten rubber bands in the crease. I have dug out what I can with an Exacto, but there is still some bits stuck in.

Does anyone know if there is a solvent or other "agent" I can use to dissolve the rotten rubber band material stuck in the groove ?

Acetone works for me.

Goof off. It works wonders... even on bands that have crystallized rock hard. It softens them up , they expand, and practically take themselves out of the grooves.
pour a little in a small glass (just enough to cover the coin(s)) drop the coins in, cover (to keep the liquid from evaporating to fast) and let it sit.

@inigmntoya,

I was wondering why I had a can of Goof Off in my magic tubs, you just answered that question. Time to put a p-touch label on the can.

As mentioned by a couple of others, Goof Off may help; as may Goo Gone. If you don't have either handy, both can be acquired in most local stores, (WalMart, Target, Meijer, Ace Hardware, Home Depot, Lowe's, etc.), or via Amazon. Another option you may be more likely to have on hand: WD-40.

Thanks all.... The Goo Gone worked great, with a little help from an Exacto knife
