Can't go wrong with Dan Harlan.
https://www.penguinmagic.com/p/13689 Perform a direct prediction of a chosen word that will leave your audiences stunned. No switches or forces. This is Buzzwords. Here’s what happens: You show your audience that all you have is a list of words and some cards with letters written on them. The words are different, and even contain a wide variety of letters from all parts of the alphabet. Your spectators choose a number, and you count down the list to the word in that position. Then you reveal that the cards you are holding spell the exact word they chose. The best part is that the list and the letters never leave the screen. No way you could have switched them, nowhere for you to hide. Buzzwords is perfect for your Zoom shows, Skype calls, and Facebook chats. Plus, you’ll also learn how Dan Harlan uses Buzzwords to play huge for a live audience. Building on the work of Melbourne Christopher, this classic principle is easy to do and perfect for real life and online demonstrations of mentalism. Taught in detail by Dee Christopher and Dan Harlan your audience won't be able to stop talking about Buzzwords. |

Right. So does it justify why you bothered to write a word spread out on a bunch of cards?

Not to mention the look of the letters shout out the probable, most logical method.

Let's break it down and you decide:
"You show your audience that all you have is a list of words" Looks like 8 - 10 words, if that. "and some cards with letters written on them." Why? How about I write the words on a "list" in one style handwriting, but then I'll arbitrarily write down my prediction letter by letter in a different style handwriting on separate cards:-) "The words are different, and even contain a wide variety of letters from all parts of the alphabet." I should hope so - very important to state the obvious in magic. Can you imagine if the words were all the same and used all the same letters? "Your spectators choose a number, and you count down the list to the word in that position." So the magician needs to know the number (from a choice of less than 10). "Then you reveal that the cards you are holding spell the exact word they chose." After they have chosen a number (which they tell you) from a list of no more than 10 words. Also the process leads an audience member into a "spelling" frame of mind. Mhmm... "The best part is that the list and the letters never leave the screen. No way you could have switched them, nowhere for you to hide." Why would you switch them and hide after they have given you all the information needed from a list of no more than 10 four letter words? "Buzzwords is perfect for your Zoom shows, Skype calls, and Facebook chats." Absolutely, where a 1 in 10 is an incredible feat for a magician! "Plus, you’ll also learn how Dan Harlan uses Buzzwords to play huge for a live audience." Dan is a great performer and thinker - I am sure this is wonderful for him. "Building on the work of Melbourne Christopher, this classic principle is easy to do and perfect for real life and online demonstrations of mentalism." Poor Milbourne - getting milked for that sweet Penguin download cash :- "Taught in detail by Dee Christopher and Dan Harlan" Nice guys - I like em. "your audience won't be able to stop talking about Buzzwords." They will. If a 1 in 10 amazes them - imagine a card trick!?! |

I get it, it’s 1 out of 10, but that’s something I see value in for anyone routining towards doing something a little more perfect within the same kind of influence theme.
So yeah this isn’t a show stopper, but an example how something like this can be routined around.. Bill Abbott’s Mind Control Buzzwords Hook by Eric Ross (lets make it more fun and dangerous) Venom Cube |

I think the Unbiased Review video two posts above has some really nice suggestions for alternative routines. I would like to add to that another routine which uses a similar method in a better way, in my opinion, is Ken Dyne's E1 which can be found in his Penguin Lecture. Also, if you want to divine a thought of word from a list of words, I believe your best choice by far is Phill Smith's Stegosaurus.
Note: Neither of my suggestions can be performed over Zoom but I consider them both to be exceptional routines. |

Another vote for Phil Smith's Ste...rus. It is a great effect. But Phil could've given it a better name. Can't pronounce it right most times.
It is better to be trusted than liked.
