Hello,
I'm quite a newbie to card tricks but learning more & more. I have a "short deck" and was wondering if someone could point me to a good book or dvd to get some ideas for this deck. I know about the Mene Tekel but was wondering if there are others. Thanks and please no snarky replies, I'm truly trying to learn new things. Bob |

Just wondering what the official label is on your "short deck" or where you acquired it. I always supposed a "short deck" to be only useful when mixed and matched with another matching deck wich is not "short"... but today so many things come out with different names that don't match traditional use that it's hard to know what you are referring to. Perhaps you mean a Svengali deck?

Checkout Multitude by Vincent Hedan book/DVD. Tons of effect.

KL : great suggestion in mentioning Multitude by Hedan. If you combine it with Kranzo's Grumble Glim or Elderfield's Insight, you might find the possibilities even stronger.
Yes a rare gem. Good call. |

It might be good to clarify a short deck as a search on Penguin shows it. It is a deck of all short cards.
They can be used for individual short cards in a slightly longer regular deck, or to make certain special gaffed decks. |

I replace one card in the short deck with the same card from a regular deck. Now you have a long card that can be used as a key card and is helpful for keeping and finding a break.

Thanks.
IT is rarely mentioned, but a long card in a short deck is much easier to find. little or no riffling needed. |

Or you could just use a long card in a regular deck for $10

Thanks Kalix, but at 10 bucks for one card, and a review like this:
"This is a great idea, but terrible product. As soon as you square up the deck, the gimmick will stick out like a sore thumb. Mr. Tango thinks he can sell one card for the price of a deck of cards. He should have seen that this gimmick OBVIOUSLY is not going to fool anyone but him. It's shameful that he put this out. If you buy this, then you just got fooled by Mr Tango." I would probably rather buy a short deck, THEN add regular length cards as needed. For a tiny fraction of the cost, and being able to control how long it is. Apparently Tango got this one wrong, and too long. |

Well, I disagree with the reviewer. The long card will of course stick out of the deck because it's longer and made to do exactly that. Only an idiot would let the long card stick out the front of a perfectly squared up deck. I'm not saying that a long card is better than a short card, different strokes. Short cards are free and work effectively in a regular deck. If one is going to short a whole deck, that costs time or money. For the money, I just suggest that a long card is comparably priced to a short deck and can be used in any deck (just like a short card).

ONe thing you overlooked perhaps. When you use one 10 buck chuck long card, well, duh.
It will wear more than the deck. So when using long cards, you need to replace them when it shows this wear. I speak from experience. The short deck costs less. Why buy one long card when you can get a whole short deck and use as many long cards as you need. Biden is showing signs of mentally not being there, and I think that idea is similar. |

Does anyone know of a vampire-themed Svengali deck?
I have a routine that requires cards with a heart in the middle (Ace, 3,5,9)to be easily forced. Svengali works best because wherever the volunteer stops me I have both the card above and below pulled out to be placed in a card frame but I do not show the heart card until after the stake has gone through the cards and glass with the stake withdrawn. |
