I just returned from Indianapolis where I did two shows at Illusions. One show was magic and escapes, the other was strictly an escapes show.
The escapes show was approached from a comedic view. I got several compliments on the act. It was one of the few occasions I actually use an assistant. Now, my assistant was half sick with a cold, so things didn’t go quite the way we had practiced. He’s usually got a very quick wit and can ad-lib very well, and that’s what we were counting on...well, with him being sick, he lost his edge somewhat. But, the show was a success. I did my handcuff escape, a rope tie, the straitjacket, and the mailbag. The mailbag was the hit of the show. I did a costume change in the mailbag. Everyone seemed to like that! I had fun, got to visit with some old friends, and made some new friends! I hope I get invited back!
The only stupid question is the one not asked.

That's wonderful Margarette, I'm so happy that things went so well for you.
Like most, I've performed when not feeling my best, and you're right, you do lose a little bit of that 'edge'.

Terrific Margarette!
Was it relatively easy for you to, "perfect" the mailbag change? Seems like quite a bit of work to me! Steve

Great going Margarette!
I know those people must have had a fun time watching your show. What did you change into in the mail bag? Was it the little red leather shorts? Continued success to you. Keep up the great work. Hopefully you’ll make your way out to California sometime soon. Joe |

Yes, Joe, the change was into the red leather shorts. Although, even though there was plenty of room in the mailbag, there was no way I was going to change into those shoes. I just wish I could have seen the looks on the faces of the audience when assorted clothing items were being tossed into the air!

Hi ya, Margarette...
The last time I did the mail bag escape, I had a heart attack right on stage, in front of 350 people. I kid you not. It wasn't from the escape...it was from the years of smoking. I had not done any escapes for a number of years and thought one would be cool to do since I had the props...well I have not done the MB escape since and sold the one I had. (Foot note:) The bag I was using, belonged to Dunninger at one time. |

Whoa Rick! You must be careful. I am sorry to hear about that man. Hope it never happens to me. Safety first. But how can you be safe against something like that. It is not as if you get a warning first or anything.
Take Care. Regards Wolflock
