While impressive as a single event, I always want to know what proceeds and follows such an effect.

For live performance one must deal with angles, lighting and routine flow issues ignored by a video.
Why a purse frame? What other effects are performed with it? What other coin effects came first?
Is he now going to crawl around on the floor looking for the coin?

Does not seem practical for a walk around or table hopping venue.

He does offer an interesting take on using a purse frame, but it does seem "made for TV" rather than any live performance.

I mostly agree, as the vanish is interesting but not much from there as to a routine or at least a way to carry on. Danny Cole’s set is a nice piece to do as to the invisible purse, one of the best I’ve seen, but if you didn’t want to be as involved, then this one from a clever magician recently mentioned here is a cute little approach, one & done/ in & out that can lead you on or to the next table. Smile

Thanks for the PMs and I agree that Jafo’s creative focus on the invisible part of the purse like that brings about a different & new aspect to the magic of it all by his magical move of it. I too had never thought about that part of the purse like that beyond it visibly not being there. To see the purse handled by the invisible bag of it just heightens the imagination and wonder of it all. Man, there was never any magic to it until you produced a coin from it or a coin disappeared into it. I love how things progress as to newer minds looking at old things different ways. Smile

Swinging the purse frame by the invisible bag is utter genius. I don't think I've seen anyone do that before, and it sells the concept so beautifully. Thanks for sharing that!

My pleasure tons… Smile

And finally on all this, I present an old friend and stable mate showing his wonderful routine with the invisible purse…Sometimes it’s all about the routine of it all and he did an unforgettable job with this one, that perhaps many of you out there might not have seen. This guy is another one that should always be remembered for his easy going way as to some exceptional magic. From then to now, it’s still some of the very best closeup/ coin stuff out there, and especially as to using this classic piece… Smile

Watching that routine again, it reminds me a lot of Jeremiah Zuo's routine about linguistics and imaginary coins. Or I guess I should say the other way around, since I'd imagine Tim's came first. Likely independent creations.

I couldn't find a link to just his routine, but it's part of this one: https://www.cwtv.com/shows/penn-teller-f......2c24005f

Yeah, Tim’s routine came first, a long time before I’m pretty sure. But Jeremiah’s take is his own I’m sure, as his thinking and works are also amazing and creative. Independent discovery seems probably right here.

Interestingly, I’ve had some interactions with Jeremiah’s work through a project I helped with as to John Jurney’s amazing Transformer Coin Set. Jeremiah demonstrated some wonderful routines using the creative properties of the set. I think he and John are members of the same Ring out in Chicago(?).

Along with Tim here, there’s been a lot of wonderful coin guys on my journey, that really took off being given a chance by the great, Vinny Marini on VinsMagic.com…Those were the days. Smile

Yup, I was likewise first introduced to Jeremiah's work in that fantastic Transformer Coin set. I had no idea he had so many other amazing contributions (like his Drop) until I saw him on Penn & Teller and looked him up to realize it was the same person I'd seen so long ago! I'd highly recommend any and all of his work. Though it is worth pointing out that he claims he's "not a coin guy". Smile

Communications with Tim was one reason I "hung in there" with coins despite increasing finger disabilities.
As to this Purse Frame effect, I asked why he did not use the Predictive Vision ploy of Schneider Basic on the repeat fake place in the Purse?

He responded along the lines of "improbable impossible" and what works in a video vs. live audience.
Some of is best effects will never offered in a video, and those that are don't always show what he would do live.

This is one reason why I question whether the "drop to the floor" video above is workable live - or is even wise for a general audience.

While Tim's routine may create memories of "must be magic," the other might raise suspicion or detract from later effects.

However, all three of the above video have inspired me to add the Purse Frame to an upcoming eBook.

Yeah, Tim was quite the magician, and he played with cards too, and just as well as coins. So much of his magic is in his presentation of it, he’s just so personable and inviting. Hard to resist his lure into his magical lair. Smile

Happy folks here have liked the things I posted on the invisible purse, it’s just too good a little device not to remember or to include in magical routine. I included a little opening using it in my Mini Magic Book, called Nana’s Purse. It’s a nice little play with the purse frame to produce a coin(s). I have used it quite a bit to introduce my favorite 2 coins when doing The MB Transpo w/ The Ringa Dinga…it’s just a magical little piece all the way through, beginning with pulling the coins from the old invisible purse. Smile

And just one more…I like to watch the young guys work as what they come up with oftentimes can be quite interesting, but sometimes doesn’t become all it can be until they themselves do. None the less, this is some really good handling with a few really nice magical pops to it…

Hey, if I don’t bring you this stuff from here & there, just who’s going to do it? Smile This guy is good and Im quite sure he’s even better now but sometimes the bits & pieces from this one & that one, are worth the whole while of it as to better understanding the greater breath of what’s really out there. Smile

Sidebar: Want to publicly thank Marion who recorded and sent a short instructional video to explain a portion of a routine that I purchased and was unclear to me (no fault of MB's). He went the extra mile, and it's another example of how he cares for the art, and passing knowledge forward.

Hey thanks G, always my pleasure to help out, as I continue to appreciate all those that helped me along my way with this & that. Smile

And hey guys, along those lines…Many times we get good info and instructions from the experiences of others, even if they don’t exactly teach you what they are doing. Their sharing of their journey and experiences can show you a lot. Though not mentioned around here much, here’s another wonderfully clever magi, that happens to also be quite good with coins. His brief explanation of self here is interesting as to how one can get from here to there in just about any part of the art from wherever they happen to be on their journey… Watch, listen, learn, appreciate & hopefully enjoy the insight from yet another real worker. Smile

Simon says (no pun intended) Smile something about “A narrow selection of tricks…” and this I totally agree with as to having a large repertoire. I find that you can better hone in on doing a little better than a lot. Hence my way of doing things nowadays when you hear me say, “Less is more.”

He goes over everything in his closeup magic that is also very important in coin magic. I love that he shows the slo-mo of practice and the real time of presentation, it links the two together to show the expertness of performance. I also like that he didn’t start his journey as a kid, as I did and many have done, but as an adult that just happened to come across it as a part of his way and thinking brought him upon it. I remember losing my way in magic decades ago and finding myself on the interesting island of puzzles, especially the mechanical ones like those by master craftsman, Marcel Gillen and his magnificent chess pieces. It was where magic for those moments, sorta dropped me off and I developed great appreciation for it, sorta being made to think things through perhaps better than I had. Anyway, it all led me back to magic eventually, but with a more creative nature to my pursuits, not just for me but with a treasure chest of magical stuff I could share. The rest is history. Smile

Maybe that’s why I have such appreciation for YTuber & magician Chris Ramsay, as beyond magic he also has shown a real fascination in puzzles which I’m sure has ratcheted-up his overall abilities and appreciation for our art, as he continues to showcase it and still find great wonder in it all. Smile And interestingly that the Marcel Gillen chess piece puzzles included coins to be found within them, well, there’s some real karma in there somewhere, especially for a decent-at-best coin guy like myself… Smile

I believe real craftsman here will appreciate the fine workmanship of these pieces. And I actually still have these, and the Queen I got directly from the great Marcel Gillen himself. Man, I been some places in some interesting ways. Definitely a long way from where I come from, all of it absolutely magical. Smile

Here’s yet another guy that you don’t ever hear much about if you’ve ever heard of him at all, but he’s as good as they come. The stuff is like child’s play in his hands, and you can see that no matter which part of closeup he decides to show you, he is expert with it all…sheer precision. This is just a short example of him playing with coins, but he can do it just as good with anything he touches, not to mention he’s quite entertaining. Hope you further check out his work. It’s interesting and amazing, even if he shows you how it’s done… Smile

Yeah that’s a nice bit from Jason, and again he does all sorts of closeup magic, but just happens to be pretty good at coin magic as well. All the best guys are. Think of magic like from Gregory Wilson, Doug Conn, Chad Long, Vinny Marini, Shin Lim, Doug Brewer, Ron Bauer, Steve Dusheck, Magik Balay, Eric Jones, etc., all of them are good with everything which makes it pretty darn hard to ever get tired of watching them work amidst such variety, not to mention that all of them stellar coin guys as well. Smile

Here’s one more from Jason, clever little bit and a really nice one to learn and perform. Smile

Always sometime during the year, I seem to remember someone from this forum that I hope never to forget, Werner G. Seitz…

He learned magic from two of his pro uncles. A Mechanical-electronic engineer by trade, he was also a semi-pro close-up and restaurant magician back in his day. Aka "Johnny Laker", moved to Copenhagen, Denmark and wrote his joy of a coin effect, Pride: The Copenhagen Coin Routine (1970).

I guess we all are someone else underneath the magic we do, which is always on varying scales. Some compete in worldwide magic competitions, others do events and restaurant work, and many more simply work the streets busking. But I guess even more than that of us are hobbyists and get to do magic mostly for family and friends. It’s an art that nearly anybody can find a place in, or a place to come back to. And we’re made of just about every discipline or field of work, and can find some common ground here on this mount. I remember Werner being so knowledgeable and helpful here as to magic, especially coin work. He knew a lot of the best of his day. Just a real gentleman of the old order that did wonderful magic the way I first came to appreciate it. Glad we were good friends here and to have learned so much from such a wonderful magician and human being. Miss him around here…
