I remember when Ponta first came along years back now and blew coin magic out of the water with high elegance and creativity not regularly seen. He went on to form French Drop and pulled together some other wonderful workers that adopted his style and added even more to the overall creativity. Just wonderful stuff, even now…

Do you remember the little boy with his one-coin routine? Made me smile to see him again after years:

Yes, I remember him, tremendous talent I agree. His family got him out there early, and I even remember seeing him on some American television shows. It’s always of great interest to show a child doing something that most adults can’t do, whether it’s remarkably playing a piano or even driving a car. Moritz’ coin magic was always beautifully done and he learned the grace and finesse early on. To watch him now just makes you smile alright. It sorta reminds me in a way how I first saw Eric Jones from right here on the Cafe in some home videos he sent me, and then as the years progressed, you would see him everywhere, on TV, talk shows, at big events, on magic websites, on DVDs, winning big magic competitions, and just everywhere and all the way from first right here with us.

Moritz was at a local convention in the UK last October. Very skilled, a nice guy and very approachable.

Yes, that is quite good. Yet another good piece of coin magic using an old classic. And that Danny Goldsmith is involved here, well, it usually means that is quality stuff and worth a good look-see.

I love looking back at the old masters, there’s always so much to learn, even if they aren’t as sharp as they once used to be. I think this effect is one of the finest coin tricks ever devised. I did it for many years and still carry the set I’ve had for decades now. It is baffling to specs, and I’d even say it’s impossible looking right up close. I fell in love with it when I first saw it, it was so good. The whole presentation is just a tutelage in presenting good magic. It’s a classic for a reason, but mostly because it’s got everything in it that good coin magic is all about . So please take a few minutes here, as this never gets old…;)

I do it exactly the same way. The is no reason to change it or try and dress it up. In its purest form it is utterly baffling to laymen because there is nothing in there to arouse any suspicion. A masterpiece.

Depends on your definition of best, I'd say.

His sleights and palms may have been cleaner in his earlier performance, but on a humanity level, his personality shines through much more openly, gently, relaxed, and engaging in his later performance. That performance breathes.

Very understandably, walls were up in his earlier days- a lot to prove, a lot to live up to- some sheer terror going on there, I think.

Penn & Teller's tribute to a legend

When you get into coin magic these days, it's hard to picture what it was like before David Roth.
At least for me.

Something like that, yes.

Having had the privilege of eating a meal and "hanging out" with David Roth, one thing that I was so impressed by and very glad to witness, and be present with was his presence. The man introduced himself to me. He knew my name. And he knew that there is so much more to life than magic tricks.

I posted both views of Roth doing this just to show the differences, but of course there are many levels to differences as many other things are happening all at once, or something like that.

Anyway, I remember seeing Roth do this up close at magic shops quite a few times, always beautiful to watch and just so much to learn if you’re paying attention. The moves were just part of him, at any point I saw him do it. And yeah, a lot like “breathing” for him.

Now, I’ve heard it said that juggling is not magic, but you know you gonna see some good magic when you see a guy that can do all of this too… WOW!

Nice to see & learn little clever things like this. I remember this young man when he was just starting out and so interested in coin magic. He is now quite well known as a stellar closeup magician and prolific magic creator. Proud of him.

I don’t get the opportunity much anymore to do a lot of sit down magic, but as you see here there’s quite a lot more opportunity to do a lot of other deception in a lot of it.

These are two well done routines and he is yet another one of us out there that you don’t hear much about. Thank God for our technological advancements that have given us all greater access to what’s out there. Word of mouth depends a lot upon what you happen to personally like as to magic, but to be able to see for yourself as to all the variety, well, you certainly can see a lot further beyond any supposed standards set up as any such right or better way as to things.
