I don’t post a lot here about my stuff, but enjoy showing off or bringing attention to others most of all. A lot of it you might not have even come across if I hadn’t posted it here, and it deserves greater attention and appreciation as many of you have shown.

Well, I was at a recent Parent’s/ Teachers night for my grandson at his school, and while speaking with his 3 teachers and the school principal, he looks up and says to me, “Pa, show them something.” I was surprised he said that, and the teachers begged me on as they said he has told them of his grandpa’s great magic many times. I have been showing him magic since he was a baby, and he’s about 7yrs old now in 1st grade. Anyway, I showed them this as I always carry these 2 coins everywhere I go… I did this well over a decade or so ago now and it and its variations remains one of my very best signature effects…The overall amazement of the teachers was something to see and my grandson’s prideful big smile was worth more than all of it…I did it about just like this and their mouths dropped…A magical moment for them, and a great one for me and my grandson…Man, he made me so happy.

Y’know, there’s some things you never want to forget. For me, this is one of them…very special and at the time it was something/ someone you didn’t see very often if at all…

Hey, I was thinking about some of the best coin magic I’ve seen and I always get back around to something like this. Why? Well, it’s just some of the cleanest coin magic there is and it emanates from something so simple but so deceptive. I’ve done things like it myself, so I know the great power of it. But just in case people don’t know or may have forgotten, here again is one of the very best to show you what I’m talking about…



There’s so much to learn here, from something that’s about as old as coin magic itself probably. Practice something like this and you’ll just about learn all of what good coin magic is all about, and from a worker that’s as good as any of the very best of them.

I have learned so much in magic from so many along my journey. Better than 50 years now, I’ve met a lot of magicians, known & unknown that have helped me on my way. Either I saw them and interacted with them in some way or I learned something from them in a book, on a dvd, at a lecture, convention or even on YouTube. But of all the places I’ve been to impact my magic, there’s been no one that has impacted it more than my old friend, Vinny Marini. I kid you not, I’ve seen some stellar workers in every part of magic, but many of the best I’ve seen have come from the fabled magic underground. Some get lucky to move up & out of there with their work. Vinny has been out there a long time now and can do it all when it comes to the art, coins, cards, rubber bands, ropes, rings, whatever…He’s good at all of it. You have but to look through his YouTube channel to see for yourself. Years & years of great stuff to see and even learn from. And of all the magic out there, he is truly one of a kind with a flavor of both east & west coast attitude and magic. If you asked many of the biggest names in the art, they’d tell'ya, “Yeah, I’ve heard of that guy,” and as many call him a great friend and magician.

He is cut from the old cloth and another one the finest closeup men I’ve ever had the great pleasure to see work and to be greatly influenced by. Not only a real performer but also a great teacher of the art, that just happens to also be a fine coin man as well. I tellya, I’ve learned so much from him as to magic, and his encyclopedic mind as to magicians and their works is just uncanny. Just about anything you want to know, he knows somebody that knows it if he don’t, which don’t happen often. And if you don’t know something, he’ll take the time to teach it to you if you but ask him. Just a wonderfully magical man, friend & mentor that has helped many along the way. I am but a humble one of them, and I just wanted to give him his flowers, and I’m sure there are many out there that have been touched by this guy and or helped on the journey as to the art. He gave me my first real opportunity to show what I could do, and did that for many big & small along their way as well.

Hey, it’s David Roth’s birthday this week. I can remember reaching out to him on his birthday for some years. Always enjoyed chatting a bit with him, always interesting. Anyway, it’s nice to stop and take a look back at a real master that showed that good presentation was made of many ingredients but always starts with creativity. Roth had a real penchant for creativity as he put out some great stuff…Man, he was good, the best!

Y’know, it’s one thing to still get emails & messages on the work I did with the Crimp Change, as it still just completely blows people away when they see it done. It’s still one of the very best one-handed changes of a coin there ever was, and the finesses I built around it just made it an impossible piece of on-the-spot coin magic for so many people and still for so many years. WOW!!! Every year brings new people to happen upon it and see something amazing right before their very eyes. It really does look like magic! But I really wanted to speak of something else from back then…

…My appreciation for the new interest in my Grandpa’s Coins effect…Just amazing! It’s an old one but I guess still a goody to a lot of people new to my work. It’s one I enjoyed doing out there, and had just about slipped my mind but happy so many people check out my website or come across it on YT. It’s a fun effect that has brought about a thousand smiles, and combines a few things I came up with along my journey. I learned so much out there over the years, it’s always a real treat to share it with you all, back then & even now here again…Anyway and again & again, “Thank you, so much.”

Because I like the idea of using Chinese coins but the "modern" ones are really not credible and cast an unpleasant suspicion of "special" coins on an entire coin set. Thus I stripped mine and used a chemical product coating brasss, bronze or copper coins with verdigris. This, in my experience, gives credibility to the use of Chinese coins.
The whole process lasts less than an hour...
