I’ve been in magic a long time, but somehow only recently discovered Camilo Vazquez, a FISM award winner in close-up in 1973. I believe he won with an act very similar to this one: Magic for the Casino
The second half of this video is one of the most magical dice-stacking routines I’ve ever seen. I have no idea where some of those loads are coming from. I’ve purchased a couple of DVDs in which he teaches a few of his dice-stacking secrets, but alas not all of them. |

Thanks for sharing this clip of Camilo! I do dice stacking and am always looking for new ideas. Let us know if you find anything regarding this routine that he may have published some tips on.

Merenkov can you share the titles of those Camilo Vasquez DVDs?

Leo, the videos I mentioned are: 1) The Magic of Spain Vol. 1, which was Volume 57 of the Greater Magic Video Library (I was mistaken, it was never transferred to the DVD format, but VHS tapes are available from Twin Cities Magic in St. Paul, MN); and 2) the Camilo Magic Lecture from International Magic, which is available on DVD. The teaching segments devoted to dice are almost identical on each: he teaches a "Dice Across" routine (very similar to an in-the-hands coins across routine), and a short dice-stacking routine. The dice-stacking routines are not nearly as involved as his FISM routine: he stacks the dice a few times, makes one of the stacked dice penetrate the table, and ends with a shot glass of whiskey finale. I was a little disappointed, as I was hoping for a little more of his FISM routine, but his tips on how to steal a die while stacking was worth the price of the videos to me (there is a definite technique at work that I didn't understand before). Of the two, I'd probably recommend the International Magic Video because it's on DVD and Camilo teaches several more tricks beyond the dice routines.

Thanks Merenkov! I wonder why The Magic of Spain Vol. 1 still hasn't been transferred to DVD. You're absolutely right, Camilo's Dice Stacking Routine in that Magicana video is amazing.

Twin Cities purchased the rights to the GMVL from Stevens Magic years ago, and I guess they just focused on the bigger sellers for DVD mastering. By the way, I just checked my VHS tapes and it turns out the video with Camilo is actually Volume 2 of The Magic of Spain videos (so Volume 58 of the GMVL).
