Hi Guys,
Well I received the juice from Hocus Pocus in good time (as always), let me start by saying Hocus-Pocus are always a great outfit to deal with! To answer Platt's question....Yes you can read the marks from 15 feet away! Upon initial review of the product I would have to say it is not for me. I have no doubt that it works for the gamblers that put their life into working with this but as a working pro I have a better marked deck that works better in my performing situation. I bought The Juice because I believed it's use may be worth while if the marks were very easy to read and this is where I have a problem with The Juice. The demo card (included) has a mark which can be read by anyone, I showed it to my girlfriend without giving away what she was looking at, and she instantly asked me what the mark was. The point is the mark on the demo card can be seen. Now the instructions do suggest that the mark is a heavy mark and when the system is worked with you can go lighter....if a performer can work with a much lighter mark then I can see this system being very useful!! My other complaint is that in order to get the full advantage of the The Juice you must use red backed Bee cards.....I, like most magicians use Bicycle cards so a Bee deck would not match any of the decks I already use. I tried to mark a bicycle card as the instructions suggest but did not have any success. It is not what I thought it would be and if you are looking for something you can use after a weeks work then I would not suggest buying The Juice. If you are willing to devote a great deal of time to really giving The Juice the effort it requires and you are willing to ring in a Bee deck then give it a try. That's my review, hope it helps Matt J. |

I bought a bottle of this from Tannen's some years ago. I would expect that it is very similar, if not identical to that which Hocus Pocus is selling.
Red backed Bees was the _recommendation_. At first I could not read the marks, but once I got it, it's like looking at a neon sign. I've used it on blue backed Bees with equal success, and it has passed the riffle test repeatedly. I play with the three-card monte fairly often, recreationally (no money, usually among friends). A couple of years ago, I tried putting a medium - sized mark on the money card, to see if anyone noticed anything 'irregular'; nothing was said for a while, so I made the marks larger and darker. Still no one noticed. I finally began juiceing the word "ACE" right across the back, and still no one has picked up on it. And they wonder why sometimes I just start laughing for no apparent reason ;-) shomemagic: sent you a PM |

I just received mine and already think it's brilliant. The marks stand out like a sore thumb. I asked a co-worker if he saw any marking. He stared and stared. Nothing. What I really like is the further away you stand from the card, the clearer the mark. One question: the marking system included only seems to cover card values but not suits. Any thoughts on how to include suits?

Racherbaumer wrote about the Juice in card finesse volume 1, and he describes a marking system (values only) for the juice in the book Cardfixes.

Has anyone tried marking the cards with the actual number and letter of the suit?

Hi Platt,
In your post you say the mark stands out like a sore thumb! That was kinda my point, because when I took the card that was included I could see the mark even before I knew what I was looking for....my fiance could see it too. Don't get me wrong I am not slamming the idea...infact I think it's a great idea (how could 100's of gamblers be wrong!), however the dark mark on my sample card was visible to everyone I showed the card to even though I did not tell them what they were looking for. With my fiance I just left the card on a table and she asked me what the mark on the back was for????? I did try marking with the number and letter and it works but again with a dark mark it can be seen just the same. I believe that if the system is used as the instructions say this system could be very useful. If you have the time to devote to such a system and do not already incorporate a different marking system then give it a try. I do already use a marking system that works for me and is virtualy undetectable....I bought "The Juice" simply to satisfy my own curiosity! Cheers, Matt J. |

Remember, the sample is extremely dark(:30 seconds). That's at least twice as dark as the instructions suggest you mark them. Here's what I Iike. Close-up, even with the overly dark supplied card, it's very difficult to see the markings. From a distance it jumps off the card.
Okay, I've experimented some more with the juice. Here's what I've found. If you want to mark the deck with letters such as JD signifying Jack of Diamonds, I can't recommend this product. As Matt had mentioned, it just stands out too much. However, the marking system they suggest(which only codes the value, not suit) is very invisible. And even if someone thought they saw something, it wouldn't stand out as a marking. The instructions say some professionals use the juice to mark letters on the card but I just can't see how that would work. If you know how, any suggestions would help.

Hi Guys,
I have been playing around with the juice a bit more and wait for it.......I changed my mind, this system is brilliant! I have the cards marked with a 5 second mark on a red Bee deck using the system the instructions suggest. I don't want to go into too much detail here but I have found if the system is used with a deck stacked in CHASED then cool things are possible. I will post more ideas as they come. Cheers Matt J. |
