Not a fan of the fishing requirements before the reveal.

You could use the subtlety that john bannon uses in his variation. this way you are only asking 1 question

I think the concern for most people is the instructional portion, I actually enjoy the revelation as is. But again, I’m a fan of this effect

It's a bit unclear how you deal with the situation where there's two cards of the same colour in the spread

If I remember correctly, all the outs are covered on the video.

I've only got the book but never mind - I think I've figured it out. It was just me being dumb.

Andy has a nice touch on this, search TweAK - 47 on his site. It is based on the Bannon version but is just as effective on the original.

Having gotten an email today, advertising for "Think of One," I searched for versions of the TOO effect. Thanks to Mike Koz for the Genii reference. I don't have AK-47 but I have Michel Potts' "Pascal's Other Wager" which contains "Diabolique." "Diabolique" is derivative of TOO/AK-47; Michel calls it a "reworking" of the two and also Hummer's "Mind Reader's Dream. The core method is the same. The removing of cards equal to the thought of value is explained as a later "verification" of the thought of card. The patter and routine plays off of the notion that a real mind reader would not need to do certain things -- like showing the cards to the spectator and asking if he sees his card. You do this by way of illustration. While this is being done (there is no request for an answer) the "dirty work" is done. There is of course some fishing/sleight of tongue to get the suit.

There is an interesting & detailed discussion here -
https://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/view......start=40 I performed my own hybrid version of this for two friends yesterday. Here is how it played - I casually did a FU overhand shuffle to see what I needed to see. One spec thought of any card. One of them cut the deck in two packets. With my back turned, she silently counted a number of cards from packet 1 to show spec 2 what the card value was. These were then tabled to start a middle packet. Then she took a handful of cards from packet 2, and selected one to communicate the suit to spec 2. These cards were mixed into the middle packet. I then turned around. Asked BOTH specs to visualise the same card. Then mentally selected a packet. The selection was not in the selected packet, but I was able to mind-read its identity. Initially they were both baffled. Then one of them said, the cards must have been in a particular order. This was close enough to the actual method for me to feel quite disappointed. One interesting point - spectator shuffled the deck, but didn't seem to remember. Or maybe was just aware that I shuffled afterwards. As a consequence, I have decided to do the following next time - NOT ask spec to think of a card then "commit" to it. Ask then to randomly generate a card (Like T&S). I think this is easier to justify. Use two specs again to generate the card. Have BOTH cut off a small packet from each of their halves of the deck. Use equivoque to apparently randomise who generates the value and who generates the suit. Probably take both packets back and do a false shuffle, before looking at the cards. |

I bought the Michel Potts 8 PDFs. I'll try to post a review when I get a chance to read through them all (!)
I think "Diabolique" has some good ideas, and some not-so-good ones.... He has a couple of interesting ideas about how to place/identify a certain card. These are not ground-breaking, but might provide some useful food for thought. I don't think his ideas about fishing/equivoque are as subtle as he claims. In fact I would say they are rather transparent. (Compared to the brilliant work of someone like Mark Esldon). |

If there are three or more effects that you like or can modify to taste it's a small price per effect. Most of the effects rely on old methods "dressed up" with different presentations. Off the top of my head I like the following Cicerone 2.0 in Esoterica. I made laminated beer label cards. Parallaxis and "The fateful Eight" in Parallaxis. I made up tarot sized cards of Lewis Carroll characters. "TOTALLY SCREWED AGAIN" in Straddlevarious . Last book I bought since before my faros were non existent. I haven't yet read in detail or digested all of the books myself. Phil |

If you have 2 spectators you cannot go wrong with The crusade. It is as strong as it gets for the scenario you describe Nikodemus.
