Anyone see Venus pass the Sun today. It is AWESOME!
I have it on dvcam/digital photo and best of all with my own eyes and now in my brain.

I was using a set of Bino's with solar-viewing glasses taped to the far end. then put the solar-viewers infront of the cameras.

AWESOME!!!

Here is a still I took around 06:45 GMT. Notice Venus (the black dot) in the lower left quadrant of the sun. around 6'20 on the clock.

The chunk from the top is a leaf from a tree in my garden.

Firedice. The picture is not to scale. I don't have 347GB of webspace to show a full size version. Smile

Yep! Very cool. This almost made up for the 1999 wash-out in Cornwall. (If nothing else, gave me a chance to use the mylar.)

Firedice makes an interesting point. I, too, was surprised at the relative tininess of Venus (even though it's roughly earth-sized). Puts into context the scale of the solar-system. Those beach balls and oranges and grapefruit we arrange in school-playgrounds, as children, are kind of misleading.

Beautiful picture, Partizan. Many thanks for sharing.

Regards,

Caleb Strange.

I was more taken a-back by the shear volume of the sun. Venus was just a good scale marker for understanding just how beautiful and powerfull our sun is.

The sun takes up 99% of the mass in our solar system. Most people don't understand the enormous size of the sun. Venus, while massive, is nothing but a speck compared to the sun.

BTW, I wasn't able to see it, so thanks for the picture.
