Howdy folks. I’m hoping for a bit of advice. I recently purchased a macbook air for use to film and broadcast my upcoming live Zoom shows. Unfortunately the camera is trash. It’s grainy and hideous. Can anyone recommend a good quality external camera that won’t break the bank? The computer already kind of broke the bank. LoL. Thank you!

Logitech C930e HD webcam. Run it using webcam control software Webcam Settings so you can have control over the image quality and the focus. (turn off auto-focus and auto-exposure , set up manual exposure and manual focus using the software to control the webcam's settings). As with any camera , the image will look better if you use good lighting . There are some good tutorials on YouTube about basic lighting set ups.

Also consider getting some sort of support for the webcam so you can adjust it's position . A traditional camera tripod can be used (both the Logitech C930 and C920 have a built-in tripod mounting socket) or something like this:

Here's a million dollar advice I got from many folks who do podcast: More important than your camera is lighting.
I picked up this set and its been golden. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KC5......F8&psc=1 Even if you only have an IPhone on a stand, great lighting will make a bigger difference than a great camera. Cheers

You could have a $2,499.00 Canon EOS 5D Mark IV or a $139.00 Logitech C930 HD webcam , but with good lighting the Logitech webcam images could look better than the images from the more expensive Canon EOS 5D Mark IV with poor lighting. The camera can only "see and show" what you allow it to see and show to the viewers. (NOTE: the prices on all the Logitech HD webcams -- C930 , C925, C922, C920 -- have gone UP ever since the C-Virus crisis , with the large number of people now using Zoom meetings, etc. Logitech is currently showing all their HD webcams on backorder status. Good luck finding them. You might find them at certain retailers who had a good amount in stock previously, or via eBay (but expect to pay more) . Before the C-Virus crisis you could usually get a top-of-the-line Logitech C930 HD webcam for about $100 , sometimes less , on Amazon. Now the prices are between $139 - $199 , sometimes higher . Because the demand has outstripped the supply . I have taught classes online for 12 years and have used live video conferencing apps such as Adobe Connect , Skype, and Zoom to communicate with my online students and the Logitech HD webcams C930 , C925, C922, C920 have been my go-to webcams that I recommend to students. The prices have increased significantly since the advent of the C-Virus crisis.) |

Thanks everyone! You are right. I’ve adjusted my lighting and have had much better results. Now to work out logistics of it all. Fun stuff!
