There's the mammal way and there's the bird way...
You may enjoy my interview with nature writer Jennifer Ackerman, author of The Bird Way. https://jackshalom.net/2020/08/25/the-bird-way/

Thank kindly Jack.
Coincidentally, I was just listening to a bird story. It’s about 20 mins in to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Q7m7D73......index=25 It seemed ironic to me that the old bird lady would end up in a cage
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Hmmm...
and when they called me "bird-brain", I always thought they were being....deroga----- . 🤔 🙃 Well,..before we slip out of 'the Charles Bukowski week', I thought it would be cool the slide this,...in here. ...when man meet bird... The Bluebird. (c.b.) there's a bluebird in my heart that wants to get out, but I'm too tough for him. I say, stay in there, I'm not going to let anybody see you. there's a bluebird in my heart that wants to get out, but I pour whiskey on him and inhale cigarette smoke. and the wh*r*s and the bartenders and the grocery clerks never know that he's in there. there's a bluebird in my heart that wants to get out. but I'm too tough for him, I say, stay down, do you want to mess me up? you want to screw up the works? you want to blow my book sales in Europe? there's a bluebird in my heart that wants to get out, but I'm too clever, I only let him out at night sometimes, when everybody's asleep. I say, I know that you're there, so don't be sad. then I put him back, but he's singing a little in there, I haven't quite let him die and we sleep together like that with our secret pact and it's nice enough to make a man weep, but I don't weep, do you? p.s.: Landmark, great interview! We really enjoy it. Thanks. |

Thanks, gallagher. I really enjoyed that Bukowski poem.
BTW, I've been in contact with a woman who was the PR person on the film, Barfly, a dramatization of one of Bukowski's novels, starring Mickey Rourke as the Bukowski-like character. She spent quite a bit of time with B. during the making of the movie. And what she said to me was that what a lot of people don't get about Bukowski was that he was a very funny guy, with an enormous sense of humor. And with regard to Jennifer Ackerman, she was a wonderful person to talk to, the kind with whom you'd like to spend a whole day conversing.
