This sounds a little like Busch's 'Cheekie Peekie' from Peek Performances - an exceptionally clean peek when the conditions are right.

Can someone please clarify: does Cassidy actually claim that Geller does the drawing wrapped in foil routine, and does he claim that his method is the same as Geller's?

I will have to dig out my copy of Cassidy's manuscript to verify. I was writing from memory...it may be the film canister test, also described in Test Conditions Mentalism, that Geller was to have used.
I apologize in advance if my reference to Geller is in error. - Greg Owen

I would like to add that there is an effect in Bob Solari's 'Cunning Stunts' Mini Lecture Notes entitled, "Business Minded" in which a business card is removed from a stack and a spectator is asked to draw a picture, or write a date on the business card. Then, the card is replaced, face down of course, into the rest of the business cards, thus sandwhiching it so that it can not be peeked (apparently) by the performer or anyone else who may assist the mentalist in duplicating the drawing. Nevertheless, the performer is able to duplicate the drawing within seconds. The only drawback is that the performer must handle the packet of business cards after the drawing is made and replaced within the packet, but the handling can be made casual and it takes only a split second to obtain the needed information. During the handling the cards do not need to be spread. I've been performing this effect to great response for quite awhile now and highly recommend it.
PS - it does require a hefty amount of business cards... The best, Michael Matson |

There are many techniques many of us know from magic and mentalism that -- when used alone or strung together -- can accomplish an effect of drawing duplication. I think the most direct the better, of course. I mean, just go back to back with a spectator as he or she draws and hold a m***** over your head. That's a great way for a kind of Slydini disappearing paper balls routine-method (if you follow). I forget what mentalist wrote that one up. He said that's how he started DD's -- or thought of, anyway. The rest of the audience sees the whole thing -- but so what. It's be great theater and quite engaging m*********** if you do a sw**** and show you drew something EARLIER THAT DAY, on a paper fragment, lying on the table -- a drawing that is strikingly similar to the one the spectator just drew.

Why a business card? Why a piece of paper? Borrow a quarter. Have them draw a simple drawing or -- have them write the initials of someone they feel close to..or someone who has a lot of money. Use age-old c*** m***s to do a drawing dupe -- instead of a vanish or a bend. Simply ask for a quarter...have them do the initials.... [they expect a magician's vanish]...say you'll bend it...a second later, say it's not bending...then announce you are getting a visual image of the person who is on the heads side of the coin -- and joke that it's not George Washington. Draw on its tails side. Then show both sides doing a s*****, then wipe off.

This has built-in motivation...first, they're expecting a vanish. Second, you have to hold it to bend it. Third, you have to hold it to duplicate the initials. And -- wait -- be bold! Forget the initials. Have them do a small drawing on the quarter. You can do it.

I credit Jay Sankey with the idea of putting drawings or designs on coins but in a different mentalism trick and technique.

Ravi, what book are you referring to. Co you mean Hardcore mentalism? Will check it out. Thanks
I personally most often at close-up or in informal settings use Picture duplication from Banacheks Psi-Series, bold business by Kuffs or Osterlinds ODDS since I almost always have my ODDS-cards with me. IMO tHese are wonderful and direct routines which alsways amaze people and you can do them in almost any situation, even surrounded. There is another dd for close-up with business cards on one of the desert brainstorm videos. Its called 'the 7th sign' by Docc Hilford. Its a nice routien but IMO not so direct. Greetings Thomas |

Hi Thomas,
yes, it should be in Hardcore. It is the two part routine where you take several business cards and the spectator writes something on one of them. You put this card back to the other cards. You not only find the spectators card but also tell her, what she wrote on it. Basic sleights, very easy in execution and great for walk around. Ravi

Are there any business card restrictions for Patrick Kuff's Bold Business ? My cards only has white space on the bottom bottom right corner, and are thick glossy stock.
Thanks in Advance ! Jonathan |

Hey Ben, thanks for the info. Really enjoyed the first two phases of the routine. I also think the peek is great, but not a big fan of the get ready. I would be interested in learning another method for getting the peek that flows with this routine.

I have a full billet (read: business card) technique that I will be describing in my next release. While it may not suit everyone, it does not involve folding, shuffling, tearing or sw-t--ing. This has reveolutionized the way I gain information (when not using an imp). I will say no more in an open section of the forum. This may be an answer for some of you (who may share some of the quirks that I have). I grin with delight every time I use it.
Regards, Waters |
