Paul Harris' - Anything Deck
It's about the only trick I do with a gaffed deck. I used to use an invisible deck but I trashed that in exchange for Paul Harris' "Invisible Rising Card" which I totally flabbergasted a magician with one day and obviously you can do it with a regular deck. Anyways, I get the best reactions from Anything Deck. Most of the time its met with gaping mouth wide eyed stares. But I have received the following responses: How the **** did you do that? Dude, that's ****** up. Oh my god. You are a freak. |

I have to say Bill Malone's Cards Across is a real strong trick. I've performed it for friends and they always bring it up a couple of months later saying that they had just been talking about it.

Anything Deck is an effect similar to deep astonishment. Also a Paul Harris effect. Many purists prefer Anything Deck though. Effect: This effect is a three part miracle. The magician removes the deck of cards from a box and spreads them out to show it is a normal deck. He then removes a stack of cards from his pocket and places them under the card box and says "we'll get to those later." The magician asks the spectator to help him think of a magic word. Lets say the spectator chooses "Jedi". Magician riffles through the deck and the spectator says "Jedi" when he's ready for the magician to stop. Spectator takes the card he stopped on. Card is removed from deck and placed face down in front of the spectator. The magician then fans the deck faces OUT toward the spectator and says he will choose a few cards randomly that will give him clues to the cards identity. The magi picks out four cards and comments on how each card gives him a clue (ie: this card tells me the card you chose is red) Miracle 1: The magician discerns the identity of the card correctly. Miracle 2: Magician picks up the box from the table to show that written in permanent ink was the value of the card they chose. Miracle 3: The magician picks up the stack of cards underneath the box and turns them over one by one to reveal that the cards underneath the box spell out "JEDI". Reminder... you placed those cards before they even came up with the magic words. |

If it's the tricks that actually makes the spectators go "wow" then there's no doubt for me - Penetration effects.

Synergy - thought of card to pocket type effect (Oz) and Galaxy - out of this world variation (Harris's AOA 3 book) have gotten by far the best reactions for me.

Unshuffled. Because they can't believe what they are seeing, then when they watch closer it is even more amazing. Then just before they might get an idea about what is going on, the last message floors them.

I agree with the Anything Deck. Nothing freaks my eighth grade girls more than this effect.
Another one that gets great reactions with younger (and older) spectators is Big Time Leaper, Paul Harris' cards across.

The Awesome Foursome by Andrew WImhurst takes Harry Loraynes original effect and pushes it into another dimension. I use it all the time and the reaction is simply outstanding.

The original Anything Deck you have to make yourself. You can buy Harris's marketed version called Deep Astonishment from almost any dealer.

Alan Shaxon does Mental Photgraphy with a regular deck. Starts with a blank deck then prints all the cards and ends clean. It looks "WOW".

If I have to pick a WOW effect it would have to be No Way. It is my own effect. A spectator freely picks a card and signs it without looking at the face then puts it back in the deck. I give them a chance to look at the card, and then I reveal it or they can let me find it face up without them seeing it until I find it. I get a great reaction out of it. They just look at me and say how in the h*** did he know that. It is just great.

Mine would have to be an effect by me called
Influenced Choice. Pretty much what happens is the spectator names ANY card they want. They select the only blue backed card in a red deck. It is very strong. This is not Braninwave deck. There aren't any gaffs. -Blake-

I saw John Mendoza's act recently and he performed a trick called Al Stanger's Ultimate Poker machine trick. It absolutely killed!! Maybe of the best tricks I have ever witnessed besides Guy's Reformation!
