I bought it... I have not received the actual blocks yet (only access to the instruction video), but due to the method, it is sure-fire and nothing to break. When the blocks arrive, I will update on quality but I expect they will great as my other products from Orange Tree did not disappoint.
The effect intrigued me, and despite the method being simple, it fooled me. What will be the gauge of success for me is the impact it has on the audience. Presentation will be critical. I could see this playing as a mere puzzle if performed badly (and quite likely reverse engineered), or supernatural if presented well. Might play with a couple of presentations-- pseudo-hypnosis or a bizarre presentation. |

Yeah, Pegasus, I always believed in magic.
Now my dreams are shattered. Devereaux, you believe the this is sure fire just from watching the instructions and not actually trying it out? Doesn't it actually get lighter with the less blocks you pick up? I don't know, I'm just guessing. How can picking up less weigh more without actual magic? And without magnets?

When I first saw the video, I didn't really think much of it because there is not much happening. But then I thought if this works as advertised I think one can put a presentation together to make this really really good. So I spent money that I didn't have and ordered it. I will post my thoughts after checking it out.

Jack Straw, there's obviously a method to make one block heavier or it else the advertisement would be totally false which I am gathering that's not going to be the case. Hope to know soon!

Jack Straw- Yes. Once you know the method you will see what I mean. Admittedly I feel silly for not figuring this out, but that's why the blocks are so devious- they cancel out the method.
It will all come down to how this is presented if it will have the desired impact on the audience. (pretty much like all magic I suppose). But this was a unique, tactile effect that fools other senses than just visual which is why I picked it up. |

Well, Devereaux, I doubt that I will ever know the method for sure.

My guess is it's a tactile illusion. You take away one block and expect it to get much lighter, but because one of the blocks is so much heavier than the other two, it feels heavier.

I saw this one also on a Lennard Green lecture video...did build this by myself..first with cardboxes and then a wooden version. This one looks also nice.
My set weights VERY much - so the illusion is very impressive! How much does "it" weight in your version? Thanks |

They should not be examined after the performance. After all, they just handled them. But in the instructions he gives a good idea for how to have them examined before the effect if working in front of a group.

They are immediately reset. Nothing for you to do

Okay, I am interested in this effect but I have a question or really a concern. If the blocks cannot be examined after the effect, what would stop a spec from trying to inspect them while lifting them?

Because you can have them examined before e the effect so why would they try to examine them while they are in the middle of the routine?

Quote: Correct, I also think that after, the other spectators will be more interested in the experience of the one that this effect was performed on. Especially if while introducing the blocks they can handle them. After, just move on and leave them talking. Thus, I feel this is a closer type of effect for me..."Strong Magic".

I agree with magicmind.
This isn’t suited for strolling magic at all, and I don’t think you’d have enough time or the right setting to really sell the illusion hopping table to table. |

You cannot allow the spectator to examine all three blocks at the end of the routine. What’s stopping them from doing that? Your presentation, the setting, which participant you select, and your act as a whole. By the routines completion, the spectator ‘should’ believe that the weight is increasing due to some psychological process you are taking them through, as that is the only explanation that will stop them from questioning the blocks. The creator of this effect has had success performing it, so clearly it is a question of how you present it.
The only solution I can offer to you, is that you tell the participant to close their eyes between each lift of the blocks. That MAY had a deceptive layer where they think an external source is adding weight that they cannot see, which deters them from rechecking the blocks... but they are examined by the audience before the routine begins.. there shouldn’t be a temptation to re-check if you’ve done this right. It’s not a question of how long you’ve performed for. |

Received this a couple days ago and I think these have huge potential. I performed it on my 9 and 13 year old and they were very impressed and shocked. I didn't try it on my 16 year old or wife yet, I am curious as how they will react. Though as I stated, I do think this will deliver for my audience. Only thing, I do believe that people who are present during the routine will want to experience it as well which may cause a problem. I truly think this can be a very powerful experience for the participant!
