I am performing for a 7 year olds b-day
party this Sat. The parents have purchased
a kitten for the childs b-day and have asked if I could make it appear in my routine somewhere.... I am pretty new at this,
and I have not worked with live animals yet..
if ANYONE could give me some ideas on producing a kitten from a silk or something
PLEASE let me know
I would greatly appreciate it
Thanks

Tom: I think a lot depends on the size and age of the kitten. If it is very small, you could use a dove pan if you have one or a mirror box. I actually have a rabbit that fits in a dove pan. Instead of producing the kitten, how about having it in a small box wrapped like a present. Use the birthday child for a trick and give him the box as a reward. I'll e-mail you privately with an idea I have but rather than give away the secret here in the forum, I'll give it to you privately.

Frankly, I think you better regroup on this one. As someone who has used all types of animals, here are some reasons:

1. You do not have time to work anything out properly, nor time to plan properly.

2. Cats are hard to work with for productions and vanishes. They are noisy, howl, strong, curious and hate confinement. I am not saying it would not be possible to use a cat...the right cat...but not at a moments notice. (I once had a cat break a mirror in my mirror box...only animal ever to do that.)

3. Kittens, although not as strong, are even busier and usually loud with whimpy voices.

4. Since this is not even your cat, you cannot easily "borrow" it to figure out what it might be willing to do with the least effort.

Now, I will give you a suggestion. Do something like a vanishing object, and have it reappear tied to the cat's collar. Something more on that order where you do not depend on the cat for anything other than being an "object."

Well, I lucked out! I I produced the kitten from the silks without a problem! I was worried though, the kitten they gave me to use was 8 weeks old!.. so he was a bit big!
I put him in the loader and he just laid there and purred until the production!!
I couldnt believe it! and when I FIANALLY PRODUCED HIM, it was like he knew what to do,
I held the silks above the table and released the load, and he just kind of poked his head out of the front of the silks right before I yanked them away...
Thanks for all of the advice

Get a rabbit pan. It will work nicely. Make a magic birthday cake but instead a kitten appears.

It's never too late to brainstorm.
