One of my favourites is Dr Thorkel from the movie Dr. Cyclops (1940). |

I’ve always loved “Dr. Phibes” and the sequel, “Dr. Phibes Rises Again”. It’s one of the guilty pleasures that I’ve experienced.

And "Waldo Lydecker" the name for the vet) Besides authoring a fabulous cookbook with his wife and being a tremendous supporter of the arts, Vincent Price starred in the Roger Corman Poe movies " Masque of the Red Death" etc, the William Castle movie "House on Haunted Hill", the movie "House of Wax" and many more gems. Vincent Price is a true American Horror Icon. |

Never seen Dr. Cyclopes, so I just added to it the movie queue. Thanks for the tips. With pleasure ! A forgotten movie, by the director of King Kong and The Most Dangerous Game. The special effects are quite impressive and the Albert Dekker's performance as a mad scientist is great. Too bad the rest of the cast is not as good. Quote:
Has Dr. Strangelove been mentioned yet? That's a true classic. It's an excellent reference too ! |

I went to a wedding once and they had a big fan blowing on the bridal couple. I thought maybe the air conditioner was broken, but turns out it was just to keep the flies off the bride.

Doc Brown, Back to the Future, Performed by Christopher Lloyd.
I've always felt that Doc Emmett Brown was one of the evilest mad scientists. His Involvement with terrorist groups gave him access to plutonium. Before he betrayed and stole from the Libyans, he was probably working on some doomsday weapon for them. He was a man of low morals, even using his own beloved dog Einstein as a guinea pig to test his latest inventions! Think of the decades of failed experiments and all the test subjects that must have been sacrificed in the name of science. No one ever stops to ask, to what end the mad doctor would go to achieve results. Makes you wonder, just what kind of monster Doc Brown really was? |

Another "Dr." that is immortalized in the Dopps library by Prof BC, is "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde". The best film version in my opinion is the version with Fredric March and the version with Spencer Tracy a close second. Great story!

Not Scientific... but I watched "Dark Night of the Scarecrow" last night. A made for TV movie. That is terrifying.

On to Giant Bug movies. Tonight: the Black Scorpion. Involving a giant bug. And other giant bugs. A Warner Bros. B movie. Tomorrow: Tarantula! Starring... a giant bug. And then: the Praying Mantis: it's big! Culminating with the greatest of giant bug movies: Them! Starring James Arness. It's about giant bugs.

Perhaps not a scientist as such, but I nominate Dr. Caligari from the Cabinet of Doctor Caligari.
The silent horror films are absolutely terrifying to me, most likely due to the decaying film stock, primitive editing, raw camera technique, minimalist and often church-like soundtracks, and exaggerated acting. And this one, with its distorted, nightmarish sets only serves to amplify the madness contained within the plot.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.
