"Enter the 6-digit security code from your authenticator app."
What do they mean? What 6-digit security code? What authenticator app?

PayPal has been supporting two-step authentication for years now. It used to be by SMS (or phone call), but a while back they added an app as another option. You can download the authenticator app from Google Play if you're using an Android device.
Here's a link with some information about it: PayPal authentication app. |

Normally they allow you to choose the destination for the authentication code. I usually have it sent to my email.
A change of location (IP) browser, or device can require a new authentication.
I still recall the day I met Beaker from the Muppets. He said to me "Meep, meep, mee mee mee Meep!", and that has made all the difference.

Thank you. I can not log in to set up a two-step app.
They send me a code to my email if I change the password and that code works to do that. However, then it asks for another code also: Enter the 6-digit security code from your authenticator app". I am using a desktop PC which is quite new. I can not see this two-step PayPal app on my phone or tablet. I have sent them emails and phoned them and got no response so far. Seems others have the same or similar problem: https://www.paypal-community.com/t5/My-A....../1831513

Paypal help support is slow... but they will assist when they do.
From the website help page... If you lock yourself out, or are unable to access your mobile device at the time of login, you will need to have your account admin disable 2FA for your user account, or contact our PayPal powered by Braintree Support team.

I had to authenticate when I used a different computer while traveling. Normally 2FA is turned off unless you activate it.

If it feels as if every company you have contacted in recent months has done everything it could not to talk to you, that may be right.

A lot of companies have their help desk people working from home. I had to call my morgage company about an insurance check issue and the nice lady assisted me while her baby cried in the background.
Worked out for me... though the phone que was about 20 minutes.

Apparently, somebody hacked my accounts and tried to order £700 phone among other things to a false address. The good news is, I not only got my money back from Amazon but they delivered the phone to me and told me that I can keep it. Apparently PayPal have frozen my account while they investigate. Still have not been to speak to them but I cancelled the credit card. Apparently the hack or trojan was in an Erdnase PDF so beware.

Good outcome! Out of curiosity, don't you have an anti-virus software installed on your desktop? And if yes, which one? I'll make sure not to use it.

You need to initially activate it. I use Bitdefender and keep it running in the background.
