Anybody have this yet? I’m wondering how long it takes to set up a business card from someone who owns this? Thanks. Paul

I have it. If you r expecting some cool chemical treatment ala ash on arm, you’ll be disappointed. Set up is much more basic. Takes just a few seconds. If you want to show the card blank before putting the flash paper onto the card, you’ll need to use the OTL principle. And because of the method, you should buy black flash paper (or any color you can’t see through).

It mentions a few, including an overly complicated method they created. But honestly, no reason to use anything other than a svenpad or DFB. Both are perfect for this. I still like 21st Century Phantom way more, but this is a nice alternative that never needs refills.

Finally had a chance to play with this a bit. Two things worth noting. First, the business cards that come with it (I think you get approx 5) are shorter and fatter than standard business cards. The gimmick itself is longer and wider than a standard poker size playing card so the images are pretty big. You can get it to fit on a standard business card but it's a little more cramped. Wish they would have made the gimmick smaller. Second, it's a bit messy. The image isn't really burnt into the card. It's essentially soot. So if you touch it, you will get black on your hands. Not really a negative but something to keep in mind.

I used this with DFB at a gig this Saturday night. It kills. When the flash paper is burning it really looks like its scorching the image right onto the business card. Great give-away, well worth the price!

I had a lot of back and forth dialogue with my friend Paul about this one. For me personally, I have two problems with this effect. Firstly, I didn't find the value at $65.00 with just two celebrity reveals. This will cycle through rather quickly after you've shown it around a few times. IMO they should have included four celebrities for the price.
Secondly, what is the actual effect? You remove a stack of business cards and then invite a spectator to initial one...Then, you ask him to name a number from 1 to 100 (employing DFB). The spectator views the celebrity at his chosen number (force). But rather than predicting the celebrity at his named number instead you place a piece of flash paper onto the business card- ignite it- until the face of his celebrity "magically" appears...Exactly, which skill is being demonstrated here? It's not really a telepathy or prediction effect and I'm not entirely sure it's a magic trick. It surely looks "cool", but I think it weakens the impact of DFB. I also tried to compare it to the Phantom Artist. But that's definitely a telepathy demonstration ("Think of the name of your celebrity..") paired with some nifty art/crafts skills using a pair of scissors. I also wouldn't perform this in a cocktail party setting ('strolling') because the soot will get all over the fingers of your participant, which is not a good look at a dressy party. So, at the end of the day, it's an interesting visual demonstration that seems to be in search of a better routine. |

I agree that $65 is steep for only two reveals, especially since there is nothing new with the method.

I am just wondering if you can show the card openly blank before you burn the flash paper on it . I could not see it from the trailer.

So basically a sooty and rather messy reveal of an image by the out to lunch method for $65 ! What’s new in that? Do you get any flash paper provided?

No, flash paper isn't included. I am experementing spraying the image with fixation spray in order to avoid messy fingers which is a real negative for this effect imho. For the !@#$e you can also use the 21st Century Phantom method which will make the presentation stronger and turn it into a prediction
effect. Over all I havent decided yet if I like Scorched or 21st Century Phantom better, but I like them both. Maybe preparing the Scorched card with ink is possible too. |

If you have the 21st Century Phantom effect also ( Propdog UK, provides many great various celebs for this ) you can use this too to prepare a Scorched card.
