As luck would have it, my trick Three-Way Spellbound PLUS got published in MAGICSEEN magazine which is popular in the UK and in Europe. It also got published in Supersessions under my name on the Lybrary.com site. A coin changes "color" three times and the magician explains that FOUR coins were used and these are produced one-by-one (a silver Half, an English copper Penny, and a brass Chinese coin) and finally an old Silver Dollar (the big kind)! It luckily is not that hard and may interest some of you. Regards, Gregg Webb

Hi Gregg - congratulations on having this routine published... Cool! I’d love to see it. Have you got a video performance at all buddy?

Sounds like a fun bit. Can you share the lybrary.com link?

Great! A lybrary link would be great. I couldn't find anything on their site doing a quick search for supersessions. Would love to check it out.

How similar or different (other than price and the number of changes) is it to Simon Aronson’s “Quadruple Spellbound”? Which can basically go from half dollar to English penny to African dime to Chinese coin. Gaffed, yes but very solid routine. And as for the major price difference, the Aronson effect comes with all gaffs needed. I am asking only to see if I need to spend an extra $5 to learn a “light” version of the routine as well as Simon’s, which I already own. Thanks in advance.

Mine had a c/s coin and a chinese coin and a silver dollar kicker. In giving a fake explanation, as the coins seem to be produced one-at-a-time and put in the pocket, (telling the audience wrongly that the trick was done with 4 coins) on the count of 4 the Silver Dollar was brought out of the pocket in thumb-palm and Vernon Loaded into the left fist for the big ending.

Hey, that sounds pretty good, GW.
I had a take on this long ago, too...Think I brought it out in my Short Pockets download with a few other effects.

Just learned a new move from Mike Rubinstein's book which I can incorporate into my routine. It never ends...the tweaking.

I can explain the handling if anybody cares. C/S at left fingertips in spellbound (French Drop) position. Chinese coin in right classic palm. Silver dollar in right pocket. AS you pass right fingers over coin in a pseudo Spellbound, your hidden right thumb turns the coin around so when the right hand moves away, a different coin is seen due to the dual nature of the coin. Repeat but this time a variation of Spellbound is done. C/S falls into left hand while right hand goes far enough to your left so that the left fingers can take the chinese coin from right classic palm (in left French Drop position). Right hand moves away.
Immediately offer to explain, saying it was done using 4 coins. Take the chinese coin to a back pants pocket with right hand. Say "that's 1". Close left hand and open it to reveal either side of the C/S coin. Pretend to take it (a fake "take") with right hand but keep it in left fingerpalm position but do a wrist "kill" to conceal it. Say "that's 2". Pretend to drop the one taken with right hand into a right front pants pocket where the silver dollar is. Grasp the silver dollar with right hand but don't bring hand out yet. Your left hand closes and opens to reveal the other side of the C/S coin and take the left hand and coin to a left pocket as you say "that's 3". Bring both hands out, the left is shown to be empty and forms into a loose fist and the right hand has the silver dollar in thumb palm. As you say "and here's number 4" you do a Vernon Load of the silver dollar into your left fist. I tap the left fist a few times with my flat right hand and reveal the left hand's silver dollar to end. |

Hey, thanks. A "mnemonic" I use is that when I reach in my pocket to get ready...it is the coin with the hole in it that gets classic palmed. I don't even have to look. The C/S coin is the one that isn't the big one. Again, I don't even have to look.
