Reportedly, Underground Poker doing well during the lockdown:

I say reportedly because our joint is dead with most of our regulars playing online.

I always wondered whether online players would be worried that the game is fixed through software means. What assurances are there? At least in a casino or back room you can watch the dealer. Is this not an issue?

I do not really know because I personally have never played poker online. I do have a number of accounts with bookies, which I use for sports betting and I have never had a problem getting paid. I think you have to be careful who you have an account with. The bookies I bet with here are all well established and licenced. Gambling debts never used to be legally enforceable here but I think they are today. I was talking with somebody about this law the other day and came across this rather interesting article: https://www.reuters.com/investigates/spe......s-shell/

with "superuser" scams like with ultimatebet I'm surprised more aren't worried about this.

its the same with everything I guess - what is your level of trust?
.
for me, I wasn't playing at levels that would be targetted by this kind of software-related scam. big sites werent going to blow their income by cheating small or medium fry.

and of course, the merits (hands per hour, multi-tabling, convenience) blew any worry of such risk out of consideration

My uncle Johnny Gough was Britain’s a top professional punter. As a young fella, I worked for him as one of a small army of runners, placing thousands of small bets at off-course betting shops. The idea was to keep the money off course where the money would have drastically shortened the prices, that is if one could have got that amount on at all. We were placing bets at the time amounting to about a hundred grand a day. The profit was normally only a small per cent. About once or twice a year, however, Johnny would pull off of a huge coup. On one such occasion, the bookies refused to pay, on the grounds of unusual betting patterns. In other words, the bookies were suggesting the race was fixed but they could not prove it. In reality, it was a perfectly legitimate coup. We could not sue the bookies and so we forced them to pay by other means; among other things, the boys glued the locks of the betting shops so that they could open without getting a locksmith out and when they did open, the boys glued their locks again so they could not close and after a while, they paid up. In the old days, bookies were called Leggers, because if they won, they would keep the money but if the punter won, they would often leg it; run away. Today one still has to be careful who one bets with. How do you know when you won? When you get paid! That is how you know when you have won. There are no certainties in gambling as we say.

Sorry, Jack, I misread what you said. I know a couple of young fellas who set up the computers for poker sites, in faraway exotic places for tax or legal reasons. They are honest fellas and it is difficult to talk to them about how it might be fixed. Some time ago I asked then about how safe it was. They went over my head though talking about how the computer system all works but they assured me it was safe and said not even they could beat it. The two of them are poker players in the live casinos for small stakes and play a bit online.
