Can we have a list of good magazines (I am in Britain if that helps anyone) for beginners and intermediates.
I like card effects and gambling/con man stuff. Huge fan of Ricky Jay, John Scarne, and those types. Really though listing magazines by region and or subject matter would help all us new folks. M |

The Linking Ring magazine is included with a membership in the International Brotherhood of Magicians.
Each month, the magazine includes a Parade section of effects, which is the equivalent of 40 typewritten pages. Jon Rachenbaumer is the Parade editor and a top-notch card man; the Parade is heavy on card work. As well, the magazine includes a monthly card column by Tony Econ. (The magazine also includes a monthly column by me, but I don't specialize in cards, so that's another story!) Cheers, Peter Marucci |

I too would recommend the Linking Ring, but there's a small problem. The members of the British Ring of the IBM typically don't receive the magazine, but I've heard they have their own publication. I think you can pay the full membership and get the magazine anyway, and to me, it's worth it.
Otherwise, Magic Magazine and Genii, are really the only two other choices we have in the U.S. I've heard there are a few British publications (or there used to be, I really don't know if they're still available)

I would recommend the MAGIC magazine. I too live in the UK and I get my magazine from http://www.magictricks.co.uk. They charge £49.99 for a 12 month subscription (this works out at about £4.00 per magazine). It is very good value and contains information about everything happening in the wold of magic. Their website is http://www.magicmagazine.com.

MAGIC, Genii, and MUM are my favorites.

To add to that, MUM is the "in house" publication of the Society of American Magicians, so just like IBM's "Linking Ring," you have to join SAM to receive it.

Not the same I know, but some British sites such as MagicBunny do a monthly magazine in PDF format. It's better than I expected it to be, and as an added bonus, it's free!

Like Peter said, the Linking Ring comes with membership in the IBM...which is worth the cost of the subscription alone.

Magic Magazine has a great trick section by Joshua Jay that leans towards card stuff and usually has something for every skill level.

Genii and Magic magazine are excellent. But I've learned a lot right here at the Magic Café. Guess I can say I enjoy the Magic Café more nowadays.

Both Linking Ring and MUM are excellent and "Free" with your memberships in IBM and SAM. As for other magazines Genii and Magic have been named frequently. Both are slick and professionally edited and published magazines.
I personally think that Genii is truly a magicians journal, much like professional journals in other professions and industries. It has moved lightyears ahead since publication was taken over by Richard Kaufman. Magic is similar in feel to Entertainment or People. Lots of news items, up to the minute stuff, but in its own way an excellent publication. You couldn't go wrong with any one of the four mentioned, if you can get them all, so much the better.

Genii is my favorite, they seem to very in depth feature stories that surpass the others.
