Gone at 75.
At least he had a long life. If I'm not mistaken, he lost a leg to diabetes a while back. Nantucket Sleighride is an all time favorite of mine. RIP

Great guitarist! Only heard him play in person once: Many years ago I was invited to a party for the late Sam Kineson, held at a large Manhattan rehearsal hall/recording studio. In attendance were some of the usual wealthy NYC “beautiful people” and “wannabees”, plus a sprinkling of groupies, strippers, hookers and drug dealers. Needless to say, products supplied by the latter were flowing freely.
Anyway, inside the recording booth, two musicians were playing, and their music was broadcast into the rest of the property through several strategically placed speakers. It was Leslie West on guitar and a drummer who I did not know. They intrigued me much more than the partygoers, and I must confess I was tempted to run into the studio and join them on bass guitar (even though that’s not really my instrument). Although my credentials would have justified me in doing so, I felt that since they didn’t know me, it would have been too presumptuous to follow through. Always wished I had been bolder on that night … RIP, Leslie. |

Boy, Arthur, I've been holding my breath waiting for someone to comment on his death, but I guess that nobody remembers him these days.
I knew that you would, though. Mountain and West, Bruce and Laing, in addition to a long solo career (which I have to admit I'm not familiar with) and some studio appearances, including playing with the Who during the Who's Next sessions, although those tracks weren't released until years later. RIP, Leslie.

The name is not familiar to me but that is not unusual because I’m am hopeless at remembering names.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.
