A couple of years ago, I made a video that details my build of my design for Pops TP device. You can watch the video on Pops youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IDkiCQDRlc&t=15s
The video shows a prototype. I have since refined the design a lot. You can check my devices on wildedevices.com.

Louis,
Def get Pop Hayden's routine and I also learned a ton of info from Christian's videos.
Here's a pic of my first one. I just completed a second as well.
Lots of fun with endless ideas.

It really depends on what you want to make. There are only a few vital components that can be bought on ebay or at a local electronics supply store. The rest is up to your imagination.

Get a tube type AM radio at a thrift store. It's full of electronic junk you can use. It can look like a genuine nineteenth century Farnsworth television.

One of my favorite props from Pops.

My version includes a pre-recorded sound module that will play up to eight sounds of one minute in duration each, a 25 watt audio amp, a six inch audio speaker, a smoke generator, an LED sequencer for visual display, a two channel remote for controlling devices from afar, and a flash paper canon. They keyboard layout is logical arranged into easily manageable groups. Action keys are located along the vertical sides within one inch of the edge so they can be easily activated with the thumbs.

I didn't want to steal Pop Haydn's routine so came up with this variation based in part to the movie, The Prestige. I want to employ the Fargo Effect and tell them that this is a true story just to see if it really works.

The performance would go something like this:

"This is a true story.
In 1915, my grandfather purchased a house in Colorado Springs, Colorado from Nikola Tesla, the genius Serbian inventor of his time. I'm sure that many of you know who Tesla was but in case you don't, he was an electrical engineer, an inventor, and one of the most outstanding physicists in the history of science. Early in his career, Tesla worked for Thomas Edison, designing direct current generators, but famously quit to pursue his own project: the alternating current induction motor. Tesla registered more than 300 patents and became famous for developing the Tesla Coil and AC (alternating current), while his work became the basis of developments in wireless communications, radar, laser X rays, lighting, robotics, and many other areas.

Tesla was the man who electrified Colorado Springs and installed Colorado’s first street lights there. He also conceived of, but never developed technology for radar, X-rays, radio astronomy, and a particle beam “death ray”.

Anyway, my grandfather lived in the house until his death in 1956. The house then passed to my father, and then to me. When I took possession, it was in very bad shape so I decided to renovate it and use it as my Colorado vacation home.

During the renovation, my contractor found a set of plans with Tesla’s name on them, written in Croatian, that had been hidden in the walls for a mysterious electronic device. I had no idea what the plans were for nor why he would have hidden them or who he hid them from.

What we do know is that Thomas Edison was after Tesla's inventions and even allegedly burned Tesla's lab to the ground in Colorado Springs. Could that be why Tesla hid the plans in the walls of his home? It remains a mystery that we will probably never know the answer to.

I had the plans stored away in my attic for years not knowing what they were for. After my retirement of 40 years as a Computer Engineer, I was cleaning my attic and found the plans again. I got to looking at them closely and became intrigued to say the least. I took the plans to the University of California, Electrical Engineering Department and explained where I got them. They studied them closely and became very excited. They had their Languages Department translate them from Croatian into English and then they became even more excited!

The plans were for a device called the Teleportation Transmitter but the professors at the University said it looked more like an early version of a Particle Beam Generator. Tesla's involvement is well documented regarding a particle beam “death ray”.

I was intrigued with the device and went to work trying to build a working copy however it was huge and would require hundreds of thousands of dollars to make as he drew it. So, I applied modern electronics technology to the design and came up with a miniaturized version of this mysterious device. It has taken me over five years to finish and I have now discovered that it has some very mysterious capabilities.

Would you like to see it demonstrated for the first time in public here tonight?"

And into the routine........
https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=2&v=GTikFSOBIA8

During the final phase of my routine, the device overheats, warnings go off, and smoke starts rolling out of it just as it is fired at the egg.

My design uses a flash paper cannon so a flash can be seen to shoot across the stage at a spectator who would be holding the lemon/egg above his head. (I also have an option to use an antenna like the device Pop Haydn uses.) Pop has already commented that would not work in a public venue because of fire safety codes. I get it.

I'm playing around with the idea of using a receiver (upside down pasta colander with electronics hidden inside) worn on his head. The receiver would have an R/C receiver that could trigger a device with different purposes. Maybe a loud clink when the dollar is transported into the lemon/egg or a flash device, etc.

I wanted to add a bit more comedy to the routine so thought that making the spectator look funny by wearing an upside down pasta colander and big safety glasses would do that.

Note: my current version uses a different meter because those antique meters are very difficult to get now.

There's a great store in Milwaukee that now sells online: American Science & Surplus. A lot of electronic gadgets, as well as other stuff:

https://www.sciplus.com/

Also, Home Depot and Lowe's carry odd bits and pieces. Battery holders, blade switches, small bulbs & holders, and of course, wires. Go to hardware section and they'll have drawers for "specialty hardware" and you'll find stuff there.

Also Dollar Stores. Learning from Pop's story about making his first device, I've come across play ray-guns at Dollar stores. Taken apart, they have great sound generators and lights. All powered by small button battery.
