Modern absinthe contains trace amounts of thujone, the alleged “active” or extra ingredient in wormwood with an evidently now-debunked reputation for having hallucinogenic properties. Or so I understand.

Some Absinthes have more anise notes than others of course, but that is the trademark taste. As such, if you don't like licorice, you probably won't like Absinthe. It's best taken with sugar and ice cold water, making it a refreshing 'summertime' desert beverage (though I think it works year round).

The wineries that were being hurt by absinthe's popularity seized on this phenomenon and, along with anti-alcohol groups, lobbied to have absinthe made illegal. This, of course, is no longer the case.

Try giving somebody a glass and performing Out of this World for them; watch them turn into a rabbit and run down the rabbit hole.

I would probably really enjoy it. Though it has been awhile, I really like Ouzo.

Pernod, Ricard, and Ouzo also have a strong anise flavor.

Arak. My grandfather and father used to drink it.
This one is particularly mind-blowing, 100 proof: https://thebottlehaus.com/products/arak-......ad-750ml

We've neighbors who are huge absinthe fans. They have a 4 spigot fountain, the spoons for sugar, the specialty glasses, and a wide variety of brands.
I've tried it several times, yet I still cannot paint like Van Gogh...
