I just thought I’d share my pain with people who can relate... I was doing some practice today and I left my expanded shell and coins on the table, later in the day the shell got knocked to the floor and dented up and no longer fits the coins. 😭 Note to self - always put props away after practice. The real bummer is that it’s hard to get Australian coin gaffs and this was a beauty, I’ve had some dodgy looking ones previously but this was nice.
Have you got any sad tales about losing or damaging your precious gaffs? I knew a guy here in Australia who accidentally paid the harbour bridge toll with his Australian coin scotch and soda, that was an expensive toll. 🤣 |

Bent rims can often be fixed pretty easily. Try taking a Bic or similar lighter with a curved body, and work your way with it around the interior circumference of the shell’s dented rim, to help restore the rim’s curvature.

Hi Jack. Dinging a shell is frustrating and annoying but rarely terminal. It's not always possible to get it looking quite as perfect as before but with a little patience and gentle tweaking you should certainly be able to get it workable.
A bic lighter or thin handkerchief will usually allow you to work the coin back in to the shell, at which point you can hold the nested coin and gimmick (with gimmick facing down) and with thumbs on top of nested coin, work the edge of the shell by pressing with your thumbs. Good luck BW Steve |
