Could you perhaps give an example of what one might o with one unit and a digital receiver?

Are there other components that need to be purchased?

Could you do anything with a deck of cards?

All of the effects shown on the two trailers are achieved with one unit. That includes the card effect called, “blank look”. Other than the unit(s) and the receiver, nothing else needs to be bought. The the effect using parchment paper obviously needs that.

What is the recommended purchase?

A single unit lets you achieve a lot of effects. You will need a receiver as well. As to which of the two models, that depends on which suits your style.
