Does anyone know if Simon & Schuster will be releasing a special edition of David Copperfield's upcoming book?

I just found out about this book and it looks like Barnes and Noble will have an exclusive edition which will have a bonus chapter on Orson Wells.

Order this from talkshoplive as well. Seems like a very good deal I'm very much looking forward to perusing this book. David Copperfield is a wealth of knowledge on Magic and what a wonderful wonderful person.

And not a bad price for what appears to be a really nice, high-quality book. I had to order it immediately.

Regarding the “autographed” version via talkshoplive…. It’s my understanding that Copperfield is signing a bunch of labels and these labels will be affixed to the book. If that is true, Copperfield will not have actually touched the book. I’m sure the signed label adds some future value, but probably not as much as a book that Copperfield signed directly. Not that that would be easy to achieve.
Me, I’d rather have the bonus chapter on Orson Welles. I’ve preordered via B&N. Mark

I do not see this book as something you buy for future profit. First of all, I suspect that a zillion of them will be sold so the market will be saturated. Second, he is not actually autographing the book. He is doing something to a sticker so no big deal. It is to sell a zillion more books. Third, an additional chapter on Orson Welles is way more valuable.
At this point, there are three different options for buying this book. Am I the only one who finds that annoying? What is next? A free bookmark? I certainly understand and appreciate that he wants as many people to read his book as possible but I am seeing overkill at this point. Just sell the book for goodness sake! |

This book is a great deal for the price. I don't know about buying it for future collector's item but I do know I'm buying it for the wonderful pictures that will be in it as well as hearing what David Copperfield has to say about Magic. I'm not really much of a collector I buy things that I like or that I find interesting when they are available. I have to say I honestly believe this book is way underpriced for what you will be getting but it does not surprise me that David Copperfield would want to put something out that is well within the reach of the average magician price range.

Very good point Mr. Videoman. I have on different occasions sold some magic that I no longer would be using. I just never saw the value in holding onto something that I know I won't use anymore. The point I think I was trying to make is that I won't buy something just so I can make more money off of it by reselling it that is what I meant about not being a collector. The one thing that I do really appreciate is when I purchase something from the creator of that item I always enjoy when they will sign it not so I can resell it for more but just to have that personalized touch I hope that makes sense. But I do have to admit I'm very much looking forward to looking at this book.

I think just the pictures alone of David Copperfield collection of magic will be so awesome to look at. I'm really looking forward to seeing pictures of his Houdini collection. It will be so awesome to see pictures of the actual equipment that Harry Houdini used.

After watching his interview about his museum and his new book, I realized that the book is a program to accompany touring his museum as well as a stand alone history of magic book. Therefore, it has a double purpose.
His museum is indeed interesting magic history and a journey through his beginnings and journey through magic. The book takes you there so you can share his journey with him. Most of us will not have the opportunity to tour his museum so we get to do so remotely via this book. Looks like a really nice book chock full of great photos! I expect the text to be very interesting as well. The price is quite reasonable for a hardbound book containing full color photos. I am looking forward to receiving it and expect it to be a very interesting and relatable experience. |
