George the only reason I said anything about the sender is I received a reply from Talk Shop live letting me know that the sender was the one experiencing a backlog on getting things shipped out. But you are correct as a general rule I think sometimes people do blame the sender rather than the service itself so your point is a valid one I just wanted to let you know I did research it first. I simply chalk it up to a lesson learned.

Eric, you may want to keep both books! Then, you will have the standard version with his autograph and the special edition with the brief Orson Welles section.
Not sure why you would want to give up the extra chapter one and at a loss. Just my thoughts… |

Very good points. I have one on hold at Barnes & Noble now I just want to see if I will receive that one first. But those are good points.

Speaking of awesome news, our Copperfield's History of Magic collection book (with the Orson Wells chapter bound in at the back) arrived yesterday and the Potter & Potter Ken Klosterman auction catalog (Part 1) arrived just now.
It's going to be a GREAT WEEK-END! Julie |

Eric:
Thanks for the clarification. I had inferred from many of your other posts that you are one of the Café's good guys. May your tribe increase. George |

Thank you George for that wonderful compliment! It means a lot coming from you. I would love to think of myself as one of the good guys on here. I very much enjoy being on here with all of you and I value your opinions and the knowledge that all of us combined on here have. I always feel my time on the Café is well spent. I've had a lot going on the past couple of months and I am well behind on sending out some PM's to people. But it is always nice to be able to get on here read a few words say a few words and then back to the Grind!

The book is absolutely gorgeous and filled with gems of history (B&N).
I’m going to ask him to sign it when I’m in Vegas next month. This stunning book was definitely a work of love for magic and highly recommended.

Afternoon (LA time), all! Received my copy from Amazon this week, but might pick up the B&N edition for the extra pages and give mine as an Xmas present to someone
FYI, the signed bookplate thing is not usually unusual in the book industry. Usually done with anthologies where multiple contributors are in different parts of the country/globe, but is also done when the books are printed and shippped from one location but the author is not in the same city, or can't travel there. Guessing the book was printed/shipped from overseas, hence the reason for DC's signed bookplates. Enjoy! |

I like how we romanticize a piece of paper by calling it a bookplate.

Hey, has anyone heard about the limited edition Copperfield deck of Hudson cards that came out with the book? Mr Google has not been my friend so far.

Well still no book yet. I was just wondering if anyone who ordered the autographed copy has received theirs yet? I've tried to check the UPS website with the tracking number I received but it still shows that they have no record of it in their system yet. So I would like to know if any of you who ordered the autographed copy has received yours yet?

Hey Eric, I believe the live signing event was just today (I didn't watch it), so by the time they get the signatures put together with the books we probably won't see the shipment until next week at the earliest. Just me guessing.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

Thank you very much for letting me know! I believe I understand now what the text I got from them was saying now. I think they have it all set up to ship and then as soon as they get the needed signature they will go ahead and ship it out with the tracking number they gave me. I was under the assumption that these were already signed and ready to go. Thank you very much for letting me know this.

I understand that the autograph edition was available through two sources: Talk Shop Live and Live Signings (Premiere Collectibles). I ordered through both sources, as well as the Barnes & Noble version. I have received my autographed copy through Talk Shop Live and the autograph bookplate was very nice with a full, clear, and legible signature. I am awaiting my copy from Live Signings. However, during the actual live signing I noticed the bookplates were autographed by David with his usual quick, scribble, un-legible signature. I am a little concerned and wonder if the version I received from Talk Shop Live is authentic. Those of you who ordered both, have you noticed that? Any explanation from anyone would be most helpful for us all. Thanks!

Autographs can always be an issue unless you get it while standing in front of the person. I tend to not have an interest in them.
Years ago, you would see guys at Record Conventions selling autographed albums and I always found them suspect. In fact, I doubt very much that they were authentic! They were all done using a silver marker and actually looked the same as each other. Also, there were some major musicians being sold and wonder how they were acquired. Better off with the Orson Welles material IMHO or both if you actually saw David signing them. |

If I had purchased the bookplate “signed” version, I would be using a loupe to look at the signature to make sure it is live ink from a pen or Sharpie. A live signature has overlapping strokes. A machine printed signature won’t have overlapping strokes unless it was done with an autopen.
