Magic. A movie from the 1970s featuring a young Anthony Hopkins. This movie is more of a psychological thriller, but it is about a magician. A bit dated maybe, but I think it still stands up today. Book by Ira Levin.

The Escape Artist (1982) Harry Anderson plays a Houdini-like character. Young Griffin O'Neil does card magic.
House of Games (1987) Ricky Jay plays a con artist.

"Eternally Yours" starring David Niven and Loretta Young.

"Is Anybody There?" in which Michael Caine expertly portrays an aging magician.

Tarzan’s Savage Fury(1952) w/Lex Barker. Directed by Cy Endfield. One of the villains uses magic to influence the tribespeople. There’s an interesting scene where the villain vanishes a small item and Tarzan immediately grabs the other hand. Always wondered what the director was trying to show. Was Tarzan too sharp-eyed or was he more like a child who knew it had to be in the other hand.

Thanks Arthur, big fan of Vincent Price and his old Hammer buddies Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. This is another movie that I was not aware of and will try to get hold of.

Hardly a "theme" but let's not forget David Copperfield's performance of the card stab in the movie "Terror Train".

Thanks Paul, it's got a 5.9 rating on IMDB which is above my threshold so I just bought it. Will save it for Saturday after our steak.

Hey Papa Legba, I just remembered that Tony Curtis starred in a movie called Houdini, about the great escape artist's life. Janet Leigh was his co-star.

Arthur, thanks for the Houdini film, yet another that I was unaware of. As I acquire and watch these movies I will post my thoughts for anyone who may not have seen them.

Slightly off-topic as its TV but, there is an excellent episode of the British TV series "Inside Number 9". The episode is called "mis-direction" it features a nice bit of bizarre magic and is well worth a look-see.
